  • It helps to realize that all times are troubled times.

The first noble truth of buddhism is: “Life is suffering”.

Not “Life in this decade in this country is suffering”. It’s not a locally-scoped phenomenon.

  • Because at its very base it’s conceived in violation of consent.

“From each according to his capacity” is the absolute essence of exploitation. Like, there’s no more straightforward way of saying “You look like resources and we’re gonna take everything you have”.

It’s only a “good idea” if you don’t think of people as having free will and the ability to consent. Communism is a great idea if you’re playing Command & Conquer and all your little units exist only to act as pawns in your game.

  • They oughta give snow blowers some kind of skis that go a certain distance down into the snow then stop, so you can peel off a layer of X inches off the top without the machine trying to grab the whole depth at once.

Like a cheese slicer, but implemented with skis that limit how far it can sink into snow before it glides over the surface.

  • And narcissism combats our ability to recognize it when it’s sub-disorder level too.

We have practices like saying difficult truths to one another, or debating, or meditating, or using nonviolent communication technique, or spending time in nature, or writing in a journal. Etc etc.

A person’s non-disorder narcissism can be an impediment to their growth, and if they don’t manage it, it can grow to overcome a tipping point where it becomes dominant in their moment to moment behavior and they get trapped in it.

Just like anxiety, if not properly “trimmed”, can grow more and more powerful until it starts to prevent normal activities and then you’ve got an anxiety disorder.

  • It’s been a while since I’ve been in tech. Is there any kind of DNS reason why you’d want email coming from a different domain? Like to skip steps in DNS resolution by going straight to a domain name instead of resolving a subdomain to the main domain?
