  • Headline from the BSA today: "BSA Joins Forces with the Department of Homeland Security on the Launch of the Know2Protect(TM) Public Awareness Campaign to Combat Online Child Exploitation and Abuse"

I just think its fair to point out they are trying, even if I dont love the larger organization. I definitely enjoy my pack.

  • I am not claiming its not their fault, but im not sure that its the history of abuse that attracts abusers, I really think its because its a volunteer based organization and there are kids in it so it makes them accessible to abusers.

The point I was trying to make is that it really comes down to your local leadership, and the parents in your pack. We have a good pack, we have involved leadership, and the guidance from the larger BSA organization when applied seems to be working.

Any time you have kids, and an organized group where adults interact with them you will have this risk. Summer camps, Schools, Sports clubs, anything. If you look at the history of nearly all kid enrichment programs you will find pedophiles and abusers.

I had two in my high school both of whom were teachers of mine, and I only found out years after. One was protected by the administration, the other hid is paedophilia in a buried chest in the woods for years.

  • I won't try to convince you otherwise but I had to make this decision. I decided that the only way I was comfortable was by joining the pack leadership. BSA has had problems and will again not because of the organization but because the people looking for targets will go where the pray is.

The organization trains every pack leader and each year there are courses that are required for both kids and parents to help educate, and protect kids.

If my pack has a pedophile they hide it amazingly well. We enforce the buddy system for both adults and kids. The only time a kid is able to be alone with an adult is in their own tent and when they are a family unit.

But if my kids going to a meeting so am I or another family member I can trust. Hopefully vigilance am me education will be enough.

  • The first Alamo Drafthouse in San Antonio TX. More than a few good memories there.

A close second place is the Latches theater in Brattleboro Vermont. I got to watch dozens of classic films there at the turn of the century.

  • Gentoo might take issue with that but otherwise yeah..

  • Tradition, and its dumb as hell since we have set the official definition of every "imperial measure" to metric we just keep using the silly ones.

  • Bring back the Pebble watch, its been dead for years and is still the best "smart watch"!

  • I have 4 Keychron's and have not had any mechanical issues, though I did have a missing foam layer in my Q0 Plus that was indicated as being part on the website. I did not care enough to follow up on it.

I find their QA good enough for the price point.

I have the K17 Pro w/ Blue switches and its great, plus supports QMK/VIA so I can customize it based on games or OS and my needs.

They have several other low profile options from 60%-100%

The Numphy air series are also a popular low profile option I have not used one yet so I cant speak to it personally. They also support QMK/VIA for customization.

Ajazz offers a some 75%'s but they are seen as a budget brand so long term software support and customization options may be lower. I dont see anything related to Hotswap or QMK/VIA so you may not get them as features. Also its subjective but Outemu switches are also seen as budget options. Personally I do not care for the Outemu box switches, but I find the traditional Cherry Clones to be ok depending on the color type. Outemu Purples and Silent White are my go to budget switches when building boards for friends who dont have a big budget but also dont really know what they want yet.

Another OEM low budget option, personally I would not buy any of these. I Have two of their other keyboards one specifically because of the MCU chip on it, the other because I needed a 60% for one of my kids gaming computers. They are plastic crap, but they are cheap.

This is a good site to search for things if none of the boards linked above tickles you.

  • Thank you! She tried to pay me like $500 for the work, and I had to return all the extra money after the cost of materials and explain that the Labor was the gift. Lots of tears. She is super sweet, lost her husband at the start of Covid and has children, but none of them are really independent. So we keep an eye on her and I send my kids over to assist any time she needs it.

  • Thanks it's my first "masonry" project so I was happy that it looked as good as it does. I'm going to go over it with a wire brush to clean it up a bit more.

  • My elderly neighbor was struggling to use her front door because the walkway had pulled away from the porch.

So I ordered some hand rails and got some pavers and made her a half step so she can safely use her front door and walk her dog.

  • But he's rich, worth billions, and he's the perfect kind of criminal to bond why would he have issues?

  • All the imperial and colonial powers?

  • i really dont get the issue, pay or switch. Its always been an ad supported software unless you pay, and as someone who paid AND quit Reddit over loosing access to Sync I think its totally worth the price.
