I've got ads and tracking pretty tamped down on my own devices, but it's honestly terrifying how often when I hang out with friends who have non-FOSS phones or Windows running in the room that Amazon is trying to sell me the topics of the conversations we were having. And it's really hard to have a conversation with someone who isn't as sensitive to this, to tell them that their devices and software are compromising my privacy, and to get them to understand that as the consent issue it truly is.
It is. A king could have 5,000 serfs and hey that's a lot of serfs. But it's nothing compared to tens of billions of dollars in an economy where most people make 35K a year. And serfs were not hot-swappable cogs like workers effectively are today. Losing a serf was a non-fungible, tangible loss.
It's apples to oranges comparing medieval feudalism to modern global capitalism, I think it's folly trying to say one is "better", but the scale of the latter certainly dwarfs the former into barely perceiveable insignificance.
My neighborhood has had at least two flier campaigns in the past year for cats who slipped their leads and disappeared. Best of luck for those who find it novel but I'm gonna keep it simple and just keep the cat inside.
Sanders isn't a Democrat, and I agree with his recent message that young left-minded people going into politics should follow his lead and stay independent.
Not the other user but I'll answer: It effectively kawaiis them. Makes them seem like harmless goofballs instead of the vindictive organized predators that they all too often are. Gives viewers a false sense of security surrounding interactions with cops. Effectively erases the scale of the intentional and traumatic harm that they do to communities. Makes them seem relatable, in the way that your stupid silly friend is relatable. All in all, excuses them.
With USPS and UPS it doesn't depend on the driver, they all get the job done and do so safely. Meanwhile I've almost been killed on my bike by FedEx drivers multiple times. Has never happened around UPS and USPS trucks. I once watched a FedEx driver pull up in front of my apartment and literally locked eyes with the guy before he pulled away again and my tracking updated to "package undeliverable". They're over-worked, under-paid, under-trained, and it shows.
It's only a big deal because of what a corrupt disaster it's development was. It's still a plane made of physical material that you can blow up. The fact that someone can shoot at it is no more surprising than the concept of object permanence. If this fact surprises anyone, it's only because they've been dazzled by the exorbitant waste.
Right, that's the funny thing about roundabouts. They're a marvelous solution to local motor vehicle throughput. That become completely unnecessary if your traffic is anything besides motor vehicles. In fact, for bikes and pedestrians and anyone else who can look at each other eye to eye and even just talk to one another if need be, no signals or signs are necessary at all.
I'm a daily cyclist and I think I'd be terrified to bike through a full roundabout. They're absolutely marvelous designs for throughput that doesn't require complex signal automation, but the flip side of that is they're pretty hostile if you're not a motor vehicle. Any truly good roundabout design should include pedestrian and cycle paths along the periphery that have priority when crossing the circles entrances.
