  • Alternate title: "Billionaire that doesn’t contribute anything to the local community threatens to go away"

It’s the same as people saying we shouldn’t raise taxes for the ultra rich because they will go away, as if they didn’t benefit from the tax paid services for free

  • The question really is why do they keep hanging to NTFS? It's like 156 years old at this point, there are so many newer alternatives like btrfs that are faster, support bigger drives and have more features like snapshots

  • That doesn't really explain why the file explorer compiled for 64-bit computers is slow as balls

  • The real answer is no one. They will quickly realize that at the root of the economy are the regular people, and since the economy is a cycle, when you cut off a part, the cycle doesn’t work anymore.

People (doomers) here are saying businesses and rich people will, but this can only, work for a limited time, because either the products will shoot up in price since only the rich can afford them, or the businesses won’t be able to sell their products, so they can’t buy new things, which means no more revenue to the shareholders.

Think of all the companies that live from b2b models, when you look closer, they are all at some the suppliers of b2c businesses, except, maybe military companies. That company that makes the lithography machines (asml) only sells to other businesses such as tsmc. Tsmc also only sells to other businesses, but they sell to businesses that sell to consumers.

  • Ay, just this after noon I was wondering how my phone got from 35 to 20 percent in an hour or two while being mostly unused

  • I think it’s more like what Mozilla is to google; Linux to Microsoft is a tool to prevent antitrust issues

  • A scale and a legend would have been pretty helpful, and a specific criteria as well, because we don’t have the info on what was used to measure how supportive or not a province is

  • There's other reasons to dislike Aral but these ain't them. My list is more like:

    • If you have the audacity to contradict him he'll block you in 0.01s
    • he feels entitled to FOSS projects catering to his very specific edge case
    • he always finds a way to complain, even when it's objectively good news, big doomer energy
  • Telecom industry is so corrupt here it’s unbelievable they get away with it

  • Interesting, I've always wondered how much battery my always on VPN consumes, it seems not much, but still not an insignificant amount. But my biggest worry with always on vpns is the idle usage, and its good to see its basically non extistent!

  • Yeah 100%. the current government here has a tendency to do bad stuff and a big fear here is they will slowly make it more private owned. But I think that every essential service should be state owned. electricity, groceries, clothing, internet etc. We have too few companies here that share too much of the market

  • Thanks for getting to our level on your own 😘

  • The last bracket which starts at 235k is about 58% (but there are many ways to put money aside to lower your income bracket). But don't lose our hair worrying if we will have to file for bankruptcy to get basic healthcare. In Montreal we have a top 10 world university that costs less than 1000$ per semester for citizens. We also don't have to worry about people carrying guns around. But go on I guess

  • The article and comments here make me very happy to live in Quebec where the electricity is 0,067CAD per kWh for the first 40, then after it is 0,103CAD per kWh, and most of the time, that electricity is 100% renewable. In Québec we have many problems but the electricity is one big point to be proud of as a nation

  • Ive never really understood the appeal of desktop modes like this or Dex, like, whenever i am somewhere with a keyboard, a mouse, a monitor with some cables, the likelyhood of there already being a fully working computer are very high, and the chances that the computer works better at what I want to achieve are much higher than my dinky phone with phone apps on it

  • Yikes, Pixels are already pretty low volume compared to other flagships, and they don't have the best reputation for long term reliability, as well as having exynos based processors which means high heat, low performance and (comparatively, against TSMC fabbed snapdragon 8 series) terrible efficiency/power consumption

  • When you have a cat lawful evil really helps with "finding out the mf had a lot of fun during the night and completely destroyed this brand new roll"

  • I like smaller phones that do not compromise too much on the usability. I got my S23 256GB for 700CAD taxes in in may last year, and I think this is a fair price. So I'll go with 600-800 taxes in!

  • This is the fediverse, what do you expect? There will always be something to be complaining about here!
