The best Android phone to buy in 2023 - The Verge

  • It was useful for getting family who aren't as interested in the privacy aspects to use it. Having it be their default SMS messaging app means them being more open to using it to message securely with me without having to worry about there being another messaging service to keep track of.

As an aside, it did used to encrypt regular text messages as well.

  • I'm thinking more in the sense of ASUS following through with commitment rather than doubting Mishaal :).

  • I'd personally wait until they actually follow through.

  • What browser are you using? I haven't faced this from Kiwi Browser or the Fennec F-Droid build of Firefox.

  • Automatically hiding them would be fine, but I personally wouldn't be comfortable with any upvote or downvote automation.

  • I did for a bit many years ago for the chat heads support. IIRC I ended up switching to Textra, which also had chat heads before deciding I didn't care for the feature enough when I moved to QKSMS.

  • Need a different hobby. Electric unicycling is great for this.

  • Ideally this will be addressed by improved community discovery functionality in the apps and Lemmy-UI so folks don't need to really think about it.

I agree Lemmy is easier than Mastodon.

  • Performance is also overall better via other instances. We were hesitant about migrating /r/android given the LW downtimes but ended up doing so when Cole offered us a place on lemdro.id. Awesome uptime and great performance thus far with his scaling solution - keeps costs low as well.

    The more decentralized, the better!

  • There's no reason not to use a different home instance. It's generally a good idea for sharing the load.

  • If you want privacy-friendly, you really do want something that's open source. Jitsi is probably your best bet.

  • Hah! 🙌 what was your Reddit handle?

  • Can you flash a generic ROM instead?

  • I thought that was disabled this time around, but I haven't participated myself.
