  • This is great, I'll take a closer look.

  • I would love to one day switch over completely to Linux. Microsoft has got me trapped with their games.

  • Facebook offers a platform to send messages. Those messages are stored somewhere. They never claimed it was end to end encrypted. If they are served a warrant they must comply. If you dont like it use a service that is end to end encrypted like Sigal or Matrix.

And by the way, if you read the article again and again, you will understand that Facebook was asked for this information because the police were told about it. Facebook simply complied with a warrant.

I cant stand Facebokk as much as the next guy, but this is a terrible example of something to get out the pitchforks. These women used an unenecrypted platform to commit a crime that has never been legal in the US. And find me another country that allows you to abort a baby at 28 weeks for non medical reasons.

  • I dont think most people actually read the article. These women performed an abortion at 28 weeks, abortion that late in the game has always been illegal in every state.

  • The instance owners are the ones who get the final say. Federation is controlled at the instance level. As a Lemmy user, you are free to leave and go to another instance that doesnt federate, or you can even make your own.

  • Denovo isnt getting cracked in days. Sure Empress cracks it, but they are doing a handful of games per year. Most games with Denovo are years to never cracked.

  • Wouldn't doing this result in a massive amount of unnecssary load on the larger instances?

  • I saw my high school chemistry teacher do it and right then, I knew it had to be safe.

  • Yep, while other were complaining about issues it was smooth sailing for me.

On the flip side, discovering new communities is a pain, and whenever i subscribe to a new community it can take hours to start populating comments.

  • Being his last name is Bowser i thought i had to be a joke. This is wild.

  • All I know is I don't ever have to care about well seeded torrents, or maintaining ratios on private trackers, or getting letters from VPN disconnects. The 5 bucks a month is worth it just for that.

  • What is fast for you? On usenet it maxes out my internet speeds. Can't get any faster than that. And I pay like 5 bucks a month for usenet. Fully automated, max speeds. It's worth it.

  • If you don't mind switching to Tidal, you can do that with Plex. Otherwise, I don't think it's possible.

  • linkding was one for me. It sounded like a great idea at first, but, I never used it. Shut it down after a couple months.

  • I use it for gaming with friend groups, but would gladly get off it if my friends would too. Sadly that is a near impossibility. lol

  • Discord is flat out garbage as a forum. Once you pass say even 15 people, it becomes a total mess of posts burying other posts, you can never find anything. I have no idea why everyone wants to use it for something it was never meant to be.

  • I did it. So far I've noticed a few things, for example you have to populate/federate the communities yourself, and it can take a long time. It took hours to retrieve and catch up all the lemmy.world posts. I expect it to be an ongoing thing. When you first connect to a community, it downloads the first 20 posts, but all the comments are empty.

The plus side though is it is very fast for me. And nobody can delete my profile.

  • Right now I'm using Plexamp. Really nice app, offline features work really well. Sonic Analysis is awesome. Only issue I have is it crashed sometimes when I'm using Google maps.
