  • What always disturbs me, and it seems worryingly prevalent on The Apprentice, is drawn-on eyebrows.

  • The Zero 2W is cheaper and pretty much the same spec as the Pi 3.

  • I'm in England and my language is set to English, yet for some reason when I was browsing AliExpress a few weeks ago it was stuck in German and I couldn't see how to change it. Go to the homepage - German. Click on a result from a search engine - German.

I don't know where it got that from, it wasn't the IP either as from a computer on the same address it was fine.

  • Just cat doing cat things.

  • Yes, you only know what you've experienced. If everything's blurry, that's normal.

I know when I got my glasses, the optician said to look across the road with my glasses on. There was a brick wall the other side and I could see it clearly. I was amazed and said as much. I don't think my sight had always been bad but it must have been bad for long enough for that to be a revelation.

  • In junior school I lost my pencil (because this was so long ago I'm not sure how that happened). Teacher told me to look for it rather than just giving me a replacement. I looked everywhere, under everything, and I didn't stop looking for it because, well, what else was I supposed to do?

Anyway I got told off for that even though that's what I'd been told to do.

I definitely got a ruler to the bottom in that class (in front of everyone) although I'm not 100% sure it was for that incident.

(Actually I'm English so that's not my language, I just happened to know that one in Welsh)

  • Haha, maybe I should? And the banner?

  • I've not been to Bucharest airport so I don't know how big it is or how it is laid out. However, usually you will go to check-in and baggage drop for Lufthansa - they will have an area which is labelled up, you might need to walk around a bit but the check-in areas should all be next to each other - and they will give you a boarding pass. You then need to follow the signs to the gates. That will take you through security and usually to an area with duty-free shopping. You'll see some boards there which will tell you which gate you need (look for your destination and the flight time or number). Sometimes they don't announce it until the last minute. You'll then need to follow the signs to that gate, it can be a bit of a trek if it's a big airport (allow plenty of time to get there - I've had it where I've walked a fair way, past lots of other gates, then ended up having to get a monorail, followed by a bit more walking). When you are at the gate, wait until they call you for boarding. If it's a big plane you'll walk down a tunnel directly onto it, otherwise you'll be sent outside and have to climb up the steps.

Airports can be a bit daunting but they tend to be very well signposted and lots of staff around to ask if you get lost.

    Enjoy your trip!

(Also don't get used to business class - he's been generous there, you're very lucky)

  • Ah, yes, didn't want to look like an advertisement 🙂

They are from https://www.techtoppers.co.uk/ (individual keycaps) - but you have to custom design them. I nicked the Amiga key images from a GitHub which had a full keyboard layout. If you can't find them I can share my EPS files - send me a DM.

  • My second computer (actually a C16 but they're pretty much the same). I moderate !plus4@lemmings.world retrolemmy.com although it's not very active.

  • Sinclair ZX81. Eventually upgraded to... hold onto your hats... 16K.

  • Note that the QL core is already available (although an improved version is in the works), and the C64 core will also be available to KS1 and KS2 machines.

  • I've programmed my keyboard (bit round the houses as I can't directly assign copy and paste keycodes) so Fn+X/C/V send XF86Cut/Copy/Paste.

    It works in Firefox. Yay!

It doesn't work in anything else I've tried, but according to that article GTK and Qt are being updated and they usually handle copy/paste rather than the apps themselves.

Looking forward to ditching Ctrl+C, which should never have been a copy shortcut in the first place.

  • In English I think it was commonly written as "y". Hence the shops with "ye" on them.

  • I'm not aware of anything, maybe there's something in the Lemmy config? Is federation generally working?
