Really. My start menu has been nagging me "To show your recent files and new apps, turn them on in Settings." since the day I installed Windows 11. Why would I want the start menu randomly changing? I wish you could just turn the section off completely instead of breaking it and making it smaller.

Everybody hates Windows 8 but the Windows UI peaked at 8.1.

The live streams thing is not about advertising. Problems like putting the hearts button on top of the chat instead of next to the chat or having the chat cover up the entire left side of the stream every time a single message is sent are just because they don't care.

Are they going to officially allow third party apps at all? The stock app is terrible, and not just because of excessive, unskippable advertising and bizarre restrictions around background play. When you search for anything, at least half of the results are completely unrelated to what you searched for in an attempt to increase user engagement metrics. It keeps trying to get you to watch shorts in its bad TikTok clone. Sometimes it recommends unrelated shorts with disturbing thumbnails in the middle of your search results. It keeps autodetecting that the video quality should be 360p on a connection easily capable of 4k, and resetting back to 360p at the start of every new video. The UI for live streams puts things on top of other things that are more important.

This is language so it could be a valid use for LLMs. An LLM trained on an unknown language won't be usable like you're thinking. It won't be able to explain or translate anything. It will only be able to recognize the plausibility of sentences in that language and produce new sentences that nobody will be able to understand.

The battery will drain because it loses charge over time or because the laptop is designed to draw power from the battery during normal operation, and then energy is lost when recharging the battery because battery charging is not 100% efficient.

I don't know how searxng works, but if it's making many requests and aggregating the results, you will probably get much worse performance running it on your phone, even if the phone is with you. Instead of making one request over a bad cell connection, you would be making many requests over a bad cell connection.

I have the Aqara G4 doorbell and supposedly it works with WiFi and Frigate (via go2rtc), but I haven't set up Frigate and I haven't verified that it fully functions with the internet turned off. It uses Homekit but supposedly will receive Matter via a software update.

This sounds like immature project drama. I've seen it before where there's a large, professionally maintained product and people make forks to add small changes and then different forks start fighting with each other over because it's their features and they don't want other forks to incorporate them. You should probably just avoid Floorp if possible.

I'm pretty sure this difference isn't real. On both, the UI is supposed to be for the UI and anything that takes longer is supposed to happen on a different thread. Even Windows Phone had that. However, in practice developers don't always do it and this isn't as great as it sounds. If you're scrolling or something and scroll faster than the background threads, it will stutter. If the app has a resource leak, it will stutter. If the graphics are too complicated, it will stutter.

RAM requirements depend on what you're doing. I had a Pixel 4 and it always ran great. I had to get rid of it because it was physically falling apart and Google stopped releasing security updates for it.

We could reduce the cost of software and art, but we won't. The money will go to the executives that saved all that money on sallaries.

Even if they're both wrong, it's worth mentioning. It's much more common for people to have experience with one than the other. If you think "oh, it's just like circumcision so it isn't that bad" then you're getting the wrong idea.
