You’re thinking of real-world geopolitics. These people tend to me more along the lines of “God only blesses the US because we’re helping to bring about the prerequisite conditions for the apocalypse”.

Agreed, but they call it honesty, so when someone says they’ve never encountered a single person who appreciates their honesty, it’s my first suspicion.

Yeah, there’s an important distinction between genuine honesty and an asshole who “just tells it like it is”.

Nobody likes the bad kind of “honest” where someone is constantly an asshole for no reason, then hides behind “well would you rather I lie about my hatefulness?” as though it’s the honesty that people dislike rather than the views they’re being honest about.

But plenty of people appreciate honesty from those who also happen to be otherwise good people.

Then every Tennessee elector still votes for Trump.

“Why”, when distinguished from “how”, is asking about the intent of a thinking agent. Neuroscience, psychology, and sociology exist for when thinking agents are involved. When they’re not, that type of “why” makes no sense.

Its strength is generating models of reality that have predictive power, and fine-tuning those models as new information is obtained.

Its weaknesses are a lack of absolute certainty and the inability to model that which has no detectable impact on reality.

OP didn’t say anything about reading time off a digital clock.

What about the opposite scenario of reporting the time you read off an analog clock? Would you translate to digital first?

In your specific scenario, sure, it would require extra work to convert it, so I’d just read it as is.

But when making plans, and especially spans between two different times, my brain thinks of time as portions of a pie chart, and I’d have to translate 3/4 to 45 minutes.

If your brain works in digital time, this is true.

Us olds have to translate the other direction.

It’s like hearing someone say “why doesn’t everyone just speak English? Why go through the extra effort of speaking Spanish?” because you assume everyone’s internal monologue is in English.
