  • Nice! This is a neat service, I think. If you can add it to Deskthority.net, that might be a good archive place? I've never tried adding anything there, but I'm also pinning out the controller board of the Cherry Multiboard v2 for a project, and was planning on learning how to contribute for that.

Edit: Could you share a photo of the other side of the controller board?

  • I don't think OP said they were offended.

  • Federating.

  • Yeah, but that won't affect e.g. the icon of this sub.

  • I like this type, and it exists in orange:

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! DKK5.33 20%OFF | Switch Puller Remover Tool For Cherry/Kailh/Gateron RGB Switches Replacement Maintenance Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Switch https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKVHNFA

  • Yeah, sorry, I don't have experience with exactly that, but if you're sure that getting that out of there will allow you to place two switches instead -- and that they'll work (did you try closing their circuits and see that you get what you want?) -- then personally, I'd just go for it. Carefully, taking time, controlled cuts, minimal forceful twisting, pulling, and turning, etc. It seems like you have nicely much "elbow room" to work.

  • So, the issue is that if you desolder and remove the switch, then take a pair of fine wirecutters and... disassemble the plastic stabilizer housings, you'd still have a small screw from each stuck in the pcb?

I'd try first try unscrewing the screws with the wirecutters or some small pliers, grabbing and turning from the side.

  • I don't think my T61 has it, or my X301.

  • Since it's likely that you can't, you can consider using a remapper to get something you might prefer over your current layout. I personally really like keyd .

If you want to use Fn as Ctrl because you like the position of Fn, then you're out of luck. That key likely cannot be rebound.

If you want Ctrl to act as Fn, then likely you can: Fn+key sends an output that you can monitor with keyd -m. You can then rebind Ctrl+key to return that output.

On top, you can consider using CapsLock as Ctrl. It's a very, very nice position for Ctrl, I'd say.

  • *newer ThinkPads ;)

  • I think that's a lot about personal preference. Do you enjoy your machine? That you can't repair it? That you can't easily take your OS with you one to a machine from another manufacture? Maybe you don't care. I do. I think Linux gives you a lot of freedom, but if you don't need or want it, I don't think there is a reason to change. I mean, apart from the whole Apple-being-a-big-coorporation-that-actively-hinders-reparability issue that one might care about from a societal and environmental perspective.

Maybe you could get all the same stuff you need for development in Linux, and a lot more freedom to boot.

I apologize that this comes off a bit hostile. I am a bit hostile. I am also sorry for it!

  • The Tafkars API might be helpful in that: Tafkars: Reddit-API proxy for Lemmy (help wanted). To quote,

    • I’ve been working on a proxy that makes it possible for 3rd party Reddit apps to connect to Lemmy with minimal code changes. Ideally all that’s needed is to swap out the url for that of the proxy. Naturally it’s open source.
