Trump seeks to delay trial date in Mar-a-Lago documents case

  • The first part unfortunately has a chance to work. But then what? Polls show trump is not nearly as praised as he was by a bunch of ppl back then. It isn't even clear that he will be the GOP candidate. So let's say they get it delayed until election results are public, chances are he loses, they wasted a bunch of time, trump and judge cannon can get hammered on appeal, and he is still stuck with solid time in prison.

    I mean I get your point, and while I do think it's important to follow the law, it's also important that no one is above the law; not even a president. But in my mind chances are so slim for him to get out of this, I just can't see it.

    The idea of up and downvotes has another pro tho: you can see if what you think resonates with other ppl and get better feedback. That one is really underrated imo.

  • I don't think this is as big of a thing as the news make it out to be. It's literally on par with sentencing guidelines for everyone else.

    The real annoying thing is that this kind of crime should be higher on the sentencing guidelines because the victims are far reaching.

    Maybe I'm the only one. If so, happy to hear any comment on why you think that the reduction itself is a bad thing :)

  • This is so much more important than ppl would like to think.

    Everyone needs to understand that it was never about a heavy increase in crime, but a heavy increase in crime coverage. It's not getting more, but now we see all of it, which is a good thing.

  • Someone help me understand this. From what I know they are arbitrarily created to make it easier to categories groups of symptoms and try to understand mental conditions by approximating them to very similar circumstances.

    Mental disorders is still a new field and for the DSMs it was always expected to only capture the newest discoveries of that time, as the field is slowly progressing our understanding of mental health.

    None of them have objective phenomena

    But aren't they just describing symptoms and phenomena? From what I've heard they are supposed to make it easier to understand mental conditions and magically create phenomena; they are supposed to describe what we see and support theories and relate to similar phenomena, so a therapist or psychologist knows how to proceed.

    Please correct if I'm wrong because I am not a medical professional, I've only been at the receiving end of therapy.

  • It was to be expected because you see delays and postponing a lot in criminal trials.

    That said, I don't know if he's gonna be able to delay it through the whole election cycle. Judges usually don't fuck around, and if Cannon does, she'll get slapped down hard later on. It will be and idea, because she already got hammered on appeal and she might be looking at some far worse consequences this time.
