Looks like he was pursuing him in a truck with his shotgun. That said, it appears disputed whether he pointed the shotgun at him, whether he left his truck, and it appearently was in 2013 which by now is 10y ago.
Still, thanks for the source. Always take the good the bad and the boring with every politician.
Some of the comments here are so stupid: "either they unpedophile themselves or we just kill them for their thoughts"
Ok so let me think this through. Sexual preferences in any way or pretty normal and they don't go away. Actually if you tend to ignore them they become stronger. Also being a pedophile is not a crime currently. It's the acting on it. So what happens right now is that people bottle it up, then it gets too much and they act on it in gruesome ways, because "if I go to prison I might as well make sure it was worth it". Kids get hurt.
"But we could make thinking about it illegal!" No we can't. Say that's a law, what now? If you don't like someone, they're a "pedophile". Yay more false imprisonment. Also what happens to real pedophiles? Well they start commit more acts because theres punishment even for restraint. And the truth is a lot of ppl have pedophilic tendencies. You will not catch all of them. Things will just get worse.
So why AI? Well as the commenter above me already said, if there's no victim, there's no problems. While that doesn't make extortion legal (I mean obv. it's a different law), this could make ppl with those urges have more restraint. We could even still limit it to specific sites and make it non-shareable. We'd have more control over it.
I know ppl still want the easy solution which evidently doesn't work, but imo this is a perfect solution.
There is undoubtedly an age where you are wise enough to lead a country. But there is also an age where you will statistically either die soon or become unable to handle your tasks in high ranking position. And for some positions that's compromising.
We're not calling them out for being old, we're noticing that there's an upper bound age that causes a huge number of problems in these positions.
It violates the right of publicity (which is either state-specific or common law) which is explicitly recognized to include commercial control of the likeness of oneself. That most certainly includes someone's voice. There's probably an argument that for AI generated translations some podcast producers have an interest in that they might wanna agree (broader reach), but with ads that is pretty cut and dry. At that point, I kinda hope the legal department knows this, because otherwise this could do incredible damage to their PR (as anything illegal does).
I remember commenting on a post where China condemned Japan for doing this.
I asked ppl there "is this actually bad or is this kind of par for the course of getting rid of the dangers left behind in Fukushima?" And most of them were like "it's not a common occurrence but it's not inherently dangerous and it's not that big of a deal"
To me it looks like the vast majority of objections to this came from strategic propaganda related to domestic relations of China and/or other nations.
I might be alone in this, but everyone always talks shit about recommendations or "the algorithm" on a lot of platforms. It's really important though. There's a difference in usability if you see what you like really quick. If you want to make sure ppl don't get it if they don't need it, make it a new tab.
I really think Lemmy is great and it's potential is even greater, but users and ease of use are the bottleneck rn, and that goes for every aspect of it.
Idk why everyone is like "well Reddit won and we're just on Lemmy because we're nerds and no one believes in FOSS anyway". Yes, I get you, there's currently not much consequence visible for the Reddit debacle. I genuinely think we're in the middle of a slow and painful death to Reddit. A lot of big companies don't implode, but they die slowly in front of their competition. Yeah, currently we only are a fraction of users compared to Reddit, but if people truly believe in Lemmy as the better platform, this will be competition.
Oh god I hate you so much for this. It's beautiful that it's possible but I also want you to know you're instigating cybercrimes.
