Btw random fact: it turned out that the reason his Long-Form birth certificate was looking photoshopped was printer error.
I saw that in a really awesome talk of a big data scientist who found the printer issue and gave a talk about his story and the journey to get it fixed. His name is David Kriesel if you wanna look him up, but the talk's in German.
There's plenty of people who want that sort of discussion on Lemmy.
Btw there's legit uses for the "dark web". Getting crucial drugs that are illegal (e.g. opioids against PTSD, maybe even abortion drugs soon), communication channels for politically targeted people and more.
And obviously especially when it is so co controversial, that is even more of a reason for a public discussion forum about it. Lemmy is all about different perspectives, so that fits perfectly.
I get sick in cars and busses, my parents have driver's licenses but they hate to drive so they avoid it, and I don't have the time, the money, or the need to get one. I live in a big city too so I can safely rely on trains.
Btw even if I'd get one, it's usually on the off chance that I need it and I'd still try to actively avoid driving whenever possible.
"you deserve to be in pain and traumatized for a long time"
Right, on what basis? Is it race? Gender? Ideology? Religion?
I can tell you rn if it's because of one of those, you are arguing on the same level is Hitler. And if not, your justification will make less sense and be none more justified.
The history around Gaza and Israel is long and super complicated. The "they hit me first" gets really fucking dumb after like 10 rounds. That's why most people in the west don't support the war, they support leaving people alone. Either the gazans or the Israelites.
War is the ultimate singularity. It's a black hole that sucks up everyone and everything and there's literally no positive to it. So if you have a say in it, the only way to cause less tragedy is to stop it.
On that note, fuck the Hamas for attacking Israel at the festival, and fuck Israel for escalating this into another war.
Well I can tell you what's happening right now because of Chevron deference and it's stupid af.
Look at Sackett v EPA 2022: a couple bought a lot, began filling up the ground with dirt to a lay foundation. The EPA stepped in, declared the stuff they filled up to be "Waters of the United States" and found they had violated environmental protection regulations. We're not talking river, lake or God forbid, an ocean. We're talking somewhere between small water body and puddle.
Why were they able to do that? Chevron deference meant that the EPA in this case is not clear on the exact definition surrounding this water body. So they decided it's included in the "Waters of the United States". You know the worst part? If a court rules differently on the definition, they are allowed to discard that definition and instead use their own.
And this is what I mean. There's no reason to give agency such broad unchecked power. Now even though this water dispute is annoying for the couple, it's rather silly on paper. Now imagine the same with the NSA or CIA. Suddenly this is not as silly anymore.
There's a great Livestream on YouTube where a well versed lawyer gives a quick overview on that case and why Chevron deference is so dangerous but unfortunately I can't find it anymore.
The bottom line is, you can't ask agencies to defer to a court before making any small decision, but you also can't just let them make their own legal definitions. There has to be something in between. It's not working rn.
It seems to me a lot more people give a shit. The one's that don't are very vocal rn.
It wasn't always like that tho, and politicians still only pander to the loud minority of people, that's why racists get more attention. And that's not great.
I think for those people it's usually the excitement of doing something that's frowned upon in the sexual context. It's the same idea as in incest porn. People don't like that because the idea of incest is great, but because of the excitement about it's illegality and maybe even it's exclusivity.
Idk what's meant with chaos. Chevron deference has been around for a while and it overbroadens the powers of federal agencies to a point where you could say they are judge and jury in their own case, while also having no accountability in practice to the judicial branch.
TL;DR Chevron deference bad, new law on this is good. I disagree with the article.
Generally, because of his criminal conviction and his intention to run for office, there's a lot of interesting legal questions that will make for new law when we litigate them.
I do like your argument, unfortunately I'm pretty sure most courts will disagree. It's two fold: first of all if you make felons unable to run, you incentivize people to prosecute someone when they wanna run for office. Secondly, this form is pretty straightforward with what possession or acquisition of firearms means. There is not enough wiggle room to stretch that definition to fit the a guy in his role as president being commander in chief over the military. I think no reasonable court would greenlight that argument.
But in general there's gonna be very interesting implications.
Damn thank you so much for finding the links and even a subtitled version :D
