  • Fr tho the hydration obsession is marketing wank you get you to buy Gatorade, fancy water, water bottles, etc. If you're thirsty, drink water. If you are doing exercise, drink extra water. If you're drinking alcohol, too bad, you're getting a hangover even if you drink a shitload of water because you're in your 30s now.

  • I'd argue that it wasn't really "net-positive". Certainly it was a positive energy gain, but it took way more energy to create the fusion than just the input energy. There is a ton of efficiency losses to create the input energy, which is defined by the energy in the laser beam that triggers the fusion. A lot of energy is also used to maintain confinement during the reaction.

I would like the term net positive to be more inclusive of all of the recurring energy used to support the fusion. It's fair to not include the energy used to construct the machines, but anything that would need to be put in to a fusion plant each reaction to get out energy should be considered.

  • Isn't occams razor the idea that it's stupidity, not malice?

You explain two types of "malice" - one which is primarily driven by a lack of critical thinking and another which is an intentionally planned attack.

Occams razor would say the former is more likely. You may have well said "fuck occams razor I believe it's Russian bots"

  • One of the concerns I would have with custom ROMs for TVs is that I think a lot of the image processing magic that makes the image look good on these high end displays is done in some proprietary method that the custom ROM wouldn't be able to use. Either in software or in hardware.

The magic of the high end TVs isn't actually in the panel itself as much as in the driving of the panel.

  • My Mazda has the same controls and I've never really felt like they're hard to find. The button layout makes a lot of sense and the large center wheel is easy to find so you can use it as a reference point to find the other buttons easily (I pretty much just use the home and music buttons and that volume knob).

  • Cut your nose to spite your face then. You'll keep paying for genocide even if you won't "vote for it."

The things you can do are support groups and politicians that will push the country in the direction you want it to move. Really think about what action (or inaction) does for the things that matter to you. You have an opportunity to do something to help reduce overall suffering and make the country and world a slightly better place.

  • So you have three options, all having a bad outcome on the most important thing you care about.

One of the options maybe has better outcomes on some other things you care about.

Another option has bad outcomes in almost everything you care about, plus maybe even a worse outcome to your most important thing.

The third option is to leave it up everyone else to pick between the first two.

I know what I'd pick, what will you do?

  • The Ultimate 2.4 has right now bluetooth and hall effect sensors as well. I couldn't get it to pair with the switch though I didn't try super hard. It works on Bluetooth with my Android TV but for whatever reason ignores the customized buttons (I keep accidentally pressing the wing buttons on the bottom) so I use the dongle on the TV.

  • There's no need to make these things Big Tech, so if that's why you are opposed to it, reconsider what you are actually opposed to. This could be implemented in a FOSS way or an open standard.

So you not trust HTTPS because you'd have to trust big tech? Microsoft and Google and others sign the certificates you use to trust that your are sending your password to your bank and not a phisher. Like how any browser can see and validate certificates, any camera could have a validation or certificate system in place to prove that the data is straight from an unmodified validated camera sensor.

  • You might find the OM5 to be a good option if you still want a "real" camera that's not point and shoot and still really small. With a pancake lense and big pockets it should be pocketable. I got a used EM5 which is the old version of a very similar body and with the pancake lense it feels like a point and shoot with good ergonomics and lots of manual control options.

I think Lumix has some options as well.
