  • No, just put a large import tax on their services, and watch European ones proliferate. If ads are 50% more expensive on google and Facebook, the ROI is terrible and nobody used them. Advertisers will choose European alternatives instead, channelling money back to journalism and European search alternatives. Now is the ideal time as Google is becoming worse for search.

  • On Lemmy, you might find it overwhelming by looking at the all communities feed and then blocking those you don't like. Instead subscribe to the ones you want and then just view the subscribe feed.

Personally, I use all to find more content and block communities I don't want. I then just jumpnjnto subscribed occasionally of there is too much junk.

It's a shame that there aren't finer controls, like to ramp up and down communities rather than just block or subscribe. Some communities, I wouldn't mind seeing their popular posts but I don't want to say the hordes of junk posts. Only option is to block.

  • The reason we have a justice system is to prevent mob justice, and revenge. Prisons in many countries are supposed to rehabilitate not punish. The USA justice system seems more about dealing punishment, than preventing crime or keeping society safe. The death penalty is one aspect of that. If it was really about protecting people, those that cut the jobs of the people that could have prevented 100+ deaths in Texas would be in jail. It’s about keeping the poor in place. The Epstein files will be interesting if released, as they will all be wealthy people, hurting children and the vulnerable. There won’t be any motive apart from desires and power. Should they not be punished?

  • Lots of people are annoyed by genocide, I would say more so than those annoyed by the use of the term. That doesn’t even count the dead.

Of you contract to a military that genocides, you’re complicit. I don’t run a company working with the IDF and I knew it was a risky endeavour.

  • No, they are not the same thing. Just like not prosecuting children is not the same as selectively prosecuting adults.

It is also fine to prosecute pregnant women. We just don't send them to conditions that put them and their baby at risk. It's protection from severe risk, not protection from consequences or prosecution.

Alligator Auschwitz is an abomination and nobody should be held there. However, there are degrees of inhumane. Sending pregnant women there is more inhumane than sending an able bodied man.

  • In America and prettyuch worldwide. Inflation was a result of both Trump and Biden policies during covid and similar government policies worldwide. Not to mention, the pandemic itself. Trump didn't get inflation under control. He's risking a recurrence.woth tariffs.

  • Varies between airlines. Usually the non budget airlines are slightly better service and amenities but the difference is shrinking. However, the. Udger will have extra costs for everything, including luggage etc. so it depends on the cost difference.

No point saving $20 then paying $10 for luggage check and $10 for a snack.

Generally best to look at what's going to suit your schedule best unless the price difference is enough to change your plans around it. 6am departure can mean a 4am rise. You'll be tired at your destination. 9pn departure, you'll just sleep when you land and need to pay an extra days accommodation.
