I know repost bots help "fill in" the lack of user activity for some communities but it ends up feeling empty anyway. I think posts (and reposts) should be curated (in a sense) by users. Bots should assist users in creating content, not creating content themselves.

I think the cheerful (maybe "idealist") anime soundtrack are associated with anime that convey the same themes (highschool life, idol shows, some shounen, some isekai, etc) so you need to watch more shows that convey different themes. You've mentioned soundtracks from Overlord, JJK, CSM, and AoT, all of which have varying degrees of grim tone and have, frankly, a lot of "action" (which is paired with "cinematic" music).

I think a lot of 90s anime soundtrack can fit the bill. Check out the OSTs of Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Beserk. Cowboy Bebop is pretty much jazz. SEL and NGE both feature songs that are in English (Duvet and Komm Susser Todd). NGE and Berserk have incredibly good "cinematic" music.

Anyway, I don't think "Western" is the correct term here. I honestly think "realistic" is a poor descriptor for some of the soundtrack you've mentioned especially when you mentioned that lyrics don't matter. There's a lot of anime feature-length and series that have Western-like music.

Yeah I don't think they're as accurate and I'm trying to fix it for my local area. For some reason, updates to the map are a bit slow to update.

I use Arch almost because of the AUR. Depending on the package maintainer, you could run into some issues and you'll have to check the AUR threads to see how to fix it. For example, a package can fail to compile and update, and the fix suggests to clear the cache. For the most part, I never really had a "broken" system because of an AUR update. YMMV

I was getting posts that are months old when I sorted by Hot. They fixed it and now posts are actually "Hot".

I don't know if this counts and it might be too much to ask for but it would be nice if there was some marketing or advertising.

Peertube and Mastodon have easy-to-digest videos explaining what the platform is and how it works. It would be nice if Lemmy had its own too.

I believe that's something only admins can set for the entire instance.
