PowerDeleteSuite is great. Weird thing, though, and idk if anyone else experienced this, but... my Reddit content is still posted, despite having obfuscated and then deleted using PDS. Anyone else?
For those who are interested in keeping their bookmarks and the subreddits (communities) they're subscribed to before deleting all accounts, I made a free tool to help you store and offload that data.
Everyone I communicate with regularly uses Signal, so Signal when it's needed. But it's very rare.
For work, Jitsi. Also Whereby.
Jitsi's the easiest cause you can just pop it open and start using it without registration. And the rooms you use are deleted after some amount of days (can't remember exactly how many days).
"Planned obsolescence tends to work best when a producer has at least an oligopoly. Before introducing a planned obsolescence, the producer has to know that the customer is at least somewhat likely to buy a replacement from them in the form of brand loyalty. In these cases of planned obsolescence, there is an information asymmetry between the producer, who knows how long the product was designed to last, and the customer, who does not. When a market becomes more competitive, product lifespans tend to increase."
I mean yeah, adopting USB-C is great (even though they only did it because of the backlash in the EU), but...
"While the new standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are equipped with a USB-C port, data transfer over a cable remains limited to USB 2.0 speeds of up to 480 Mbps, which is equal to the Lightning port on previous iPhones."
Only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support USB 3 data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps over a cable. (Cable/adapter sold separately.)
So the speeds are still being throttled.
Plus, both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are at a 60Hz refresh rate. Idk if I'd consider these "good iterative updates" tbh.
I also finally received my data archive from Twitter. For weeks, the verification emails weren't being delivered. When they were, the codes had expired. Repeat. I have no proof to indicate this was a way of locking me in, but it seems suspicious because it had never happened before.
For me, it's not about being petty or spiteful against these platforms just for the hell of it. It's just that I'm tired of their unethical business model. Hostile practices. Their lock-in. Lack of interoperability. The user hostility.
It's not good for us, it's only good for the platform, which then only serves to give that platform more power, which means more user abuse, enshittification, etc.
Feels good to not contribute to that and not continue digging that hole, as well as invest in a better web for all of us.
As usual, it's only Big Tech that's able to compete with Big Tech. They all love to throw their weight around when they can, and join forces when it's convenient.
Neither corporation should be defended or trusted with your data.
The only thing that's kinda funny here is the irony of Microsoft tryna poach Chrome users into their own... wait for it... Chromium-based browser.

It's called Reddit Account Manager, and it's 100% free.
You can also use it for Lemmy accounts, of course.
