  • We all know companies are pushing for a return to offices but I expected more pushback from employees.
Luckily I have it in my contract that I am a remote worker and the company doesn't even have an office in my city, so I'm safe, but still I'd like to see wfh become the new normal.

  • Yes, because it doesn't just "lack" it. They deliberately chose not to include such a simple thing so they can sell more shitty wireless headphones. I already have good wired ones, so no thank you. And I find this extremely anti-consumer and anti-sustainability.

  • There is no good faith argument that can be made for the removal of the headphone jack. Companies removed it to sell overpriced wireless headphones.
They said it was due to size, but new phones are quite chunky these days so that's not true. Waterproofing? Can be done, many phones have waterproofing and a headphone jack.
Costs? Come on it's a very simple, very old, plastic bit.
And sustainability? "planet-conscious"? You must be kidding. It's way better to use regular headphones than the wireless pieces of crap with batteries and an amplifier and a bluetooth receiver in them.

  • The fact that they don't include a headphone jack that's been an audio standard for decades makes their claims of sustainability seem like marketing bs. And the argument that it's to make the phones thinner is bs too, since most phones now are bricks compared to previous generations. It was all a ruse to sell crappy bluetooth headphones with recharcghable batteries that are going to wind up in a landfill.

  • Why do you blame an entire generation of people? You think the average Joe is directly responsible for climate change?
You can blame leaders, politicians, etc who actually had the power to change things and the responsability to be aware of climate change and take action.
And if you say "yeah but they elected the politicians" I don't know what it's like in Sweden but in a lot of countries you have no meaningful choice. You have Trump vs Biden kind of options, always having to vote for the "lesser evil".

  • This is the top comment and I haven't even heard of it before, and it's not a new thing either. Seems like I still have much to learn.
I looked briefly at wikipedia to see what it's about (reminds me of DC++) but I don't think that paints a full picture.
Would you, or anyone with experience using Soulseek elaborate a bit on how it works and why you chose it over torrents?

  • I was just comparing borg and restic yesterday (still haven't made up my mind) so your post comes at a great time for me :)
I think in the end I'll give rustic a chance - it's supposed to be compatible with restic but written in rust. Much smaller project atm though.

  • So, does anyone else here think Red Bull will win all the races this year?
I'm not a fan of theirs but F1 has often had 1 team completely dominating the rest, and now it's their turn again.
Wdyt could be done to try and get rid of these eras of domination?

  • It's a shame that there's a monopoly with only 1 supplier. Competition would be better for everybody. Weird that despite Bridgestone offering the better deal they still went with Pirelli. I wonder how corrupt the choosing process is.
