  • Yeah - stuff like this should REALLY be public infrastructure

    I know a lot of people are opposed to the state running things but I really wouldn't mind if there was a well-managed state-run federated instance for all of this

    at least with Matrix Europe is already doing something like this since it's the de-facto-standard for a lot of the internal chats - but there really needs to be a push to make it more popular.

    Having the kind of "lock-in" that Meta has where their userbase alone is an argument of using their service is horrible since it makes every competition futile...

  • Yeah the problem is that the world is kind of running out of dictatorships and underdeveloped countries that "first world countries" can exploit without a second thought - so the reality of having to adapt to a far less glamorous life will have to settle in sooner or later for a lot of those richer countries as there is a huge divide between their lifestyle and moral values.

    So the easiest solution for a lot of them is to put moral values aside and be egoistic and imho that's what leading to a lot of the shitty stuff that we see happening today all over the world.

    The only way to keep living while exploiting people halfway across the world is telling yourself that those people are "worth less" and there you have the necessary first step for racism/fascism/populism to latch onto

    But tbh if your function is having mit than 3 levels of nested loops you should probably rethink that function

  • The problem is really that the whole system is fucked up.

    Elections being about "the lesser evil" instead of voting FOR what you actually want is just horrible - no wonder so many people are losing faith in democracy over there...
