I keep trying to reinforce this for my wife at her work. People tend to grossly overestimate how much time others spend thinking about them. They don’t really think about you at all.
I think it comes down to driver support. It’s not that the hardware can’t do this, but rather it’s that you need to pass the option to control it all the way up from the lowest levels of the system eventually into user space where you can select an option in settings.
That, and it’s just not the first priority on devices that are generally low-margin.
We told them to go fuck themselves. We retain lawyer specifically in case we have legal concerns, and the way we use their products, price jack up would be so extreme that it’s entirely worth risking it while we migrate away.
Only a fool would take a government job unless they had no choice. Even if I were considering it, I would insist in negotiations for pay upfront or some kind of severance agreement.
For many years, the status quo was that you underpaid and provided an extremely stable position but in exchange received more loyal and often more experienced employees that knew how to work with the complex bureaucratic systems. Now, there’s no reason to take those jobs.
There’s no reason to take these jobs, not without a significant pay bump or other equalizing factor.
I’m almost curious to know what kind of world these people live in where the issue comes up so often they feel the need to pass legislation. Can’t they leave people alone?
Do we have a clipped ear or is it a trick of the camera where that's a hair and the black ear fades into the background?
