  • Not that I've found. Despite feeling like they must be worth something I've never found an actual use case for an old smartphone besides giving it to someone who can't afford their own. I would love to donate old phones to a social service to be given to job seekers, homeless, domestic violence victims, etc.

I'm kinda grateful iPads and tablets were hella expensive when my kids were small because now the temptation to give the baby their own iPad because they are cheap on Woot or whatever must be tremendous.

  • The survey you're quoting was that 90% of teens said they wanted an iPhone.

I have teens and know a lot of them right now among actual hardware they are still in 50/50 iPhone-Android at least among my kids' friends.

Teens say they want brand-name shit all the time but reality is that most of them are toting hand-me-down hardware from their parents.

  • Considering that the actors couldn't do the usual marketing tours due to the strike so there's a lot of average Marvel fans who didn't know it was out, I'm not surprised Opening Weekend wasn't amazing. It's had a better opening than most movies this year except heavily marketed block busters so I don't think this is really an overall bad sign for this film. Unlike Eternals, I think this is going to build audience over it's first couple of weeks. Saw a lot more people talking about it on social media than anything since Barbie/Oppenheimer.

  • This happens to my front step railing every year or so. It's two things that have been mentioned, but in combination.

Carpenter bees bored into your wood to make their nests, and then a woodpecker came along and ate the bees in their nests.

Here's a cool article about the bees. http://entomology.ca.uky.edu/ef611

  • Forgive me, but the articles suggested that the problem with tires was their deteriorating into miroplastic particles with use. What other miroplastic problem with tires is there that you're not mentioning?

  • Thanks for reminding me I could use Google Lens to translate the German Memes.

According to that this joke goes: My Dad asked me if I have a favorite fruit. I told him "Papa, ja!" Literally "dad, yes!" But also pun for "papaya," a tropical fruit.

A+, good joke and not too bad to translate.

  • We subscribed to Trade Coffee for about 8 months and they sent us a totally new bag from a different roaster every week. We played around with it a lot, many different kinds and roasts of coffee, and found one roaster in Atlanta we really like. You rate each coffee as you try them and they adjust what to send you next week. You can read descriptions of each coffee on their site and pick what order things come in.

It's perfect for when you want to have a broad selection of coffee over time.

My only warning is Trade doesn't really do dark, dark roasts. My taste pallette falls all the way at the end of their range and their rating scale is a little confusing so it took me a couple conversations with their customer service department to get my account set to only send dark roasts.

  • Is this their first platform death? Come on, Wired!

Millennials have been losing platforms on the Internet for pretty much the whole history of the Internet. Just a handful of "social media" type services that have risen and fallen in my years of the internet: AOL Instant Message, ICQ, IRC, Usenet, LiveJournal, MySpace, on and on.

Most of these aren't even properly "dead", many I just.mentioned still have big user groups too. They just lost a critical user share when folks moved on.

  • I've had IKEA Family for many years and honestly had NO IDEA it offered a discount on purchases. I'm not sure if they just didn't advertise this very well at the start or it hasn't been offered for very long.

We've been using it for free coffee, wifi in the store and savings on deliveries. 5% is not much of a discount but it's adds up.

For those of you who don't know, this wasn't a paid membership. I think we entered our email at a store kiosk at they either gave or mailed us a orange card.
