In their charts the 4080 does fine even at 4K with raytracing on.
Depending on your appetite for self-hosting, you could try searx, searxng, 4get, and/or Yacy. I copied the below from another comment I made earlier today as it relates to those engines:
I’ve been using a combo of
- https://git.lolcat.ca/lolcat/4get
- https://github.com/searx/searx and
- https://github.com/searxng/searxng
myself lately, and they can all use DDG. Being able to get specialized searches sent to the appropriate engine automatically or being able to choose the engine(s) manually is really nice. But they don’t have their own web crawler.
I’m starting to look into Yacy - which is supported by Searx - as a means to add a p2p web crawler and index under my control to the mix.
If you’re seeing sponsored results in Google and you’re running uBlock Origin in Firefox then there’s something wrong. You might have an adware extension installed or some other issue on your machine, you might have disabled the filters that block those results in uBlock or might have a conflicting extension, or you might just need to update your filter lists.
Of course that doesn’t help the actually quality of results. You can use Let's Block It! - Search Engine Results to build a filter that can be added to uBlock Origin. This lets you customize the list for your search engine(s) of choice, and it has checkboxes to automatically block a lot of sites that just mirror content.
However, uBlacklist might be a better option, and Awesome uBlacklist includes a link to a list dedicated to blocking content farm links (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/wdmpa/content-farm-list/main/uBlacklist.txt
is the list itself that you would add as a uBlacklist subscription).
DDG uses more than just Bing, and they filter out many results from Bing.
Bing is their primary source of results for the traditional search entries, but if they’re able to determine the category of your search, they directly leverage specialized search engines instead.

Are the games that you play reported to work in Linux? Check out ProtonDB and search for some games you care about. It’s possible they don’t work but based off user reports, most likely they’ll work okay out of the box and work well with some tinkering.
Generally, 55-60 Fahrenheit (13-16 C) should be safe. If you have mild winters and a house layout that isn’t too spread out, you may be able to set it as low as 45 F (7 C).
The Necklace of Adaptation is probably the best option. It’s an uncommon magical item from the DMG that requires attunement.
While wearing this necklace, you can breathe normally in any environment, and you have advantage on saving throws made against harmful gases and vapors (such as cloudkill and stinking cloud effects, inhaled poisons, and the breath weapons of some dragons).
the next-generation Switch might still be able to hold its own in terms of graphics performance with Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S in some optimized titles.
I’ll believe that when I see it.
Gaming laptops are such a terrible way to game that I can’t think of a situation where I’d recommend one.
For budget reasons, get a console or build a couple gen old desktop for a cheaper price.
For portability? Get a Steam Deck.
If you’re gaming at the dining room table, it’d be better if it were a Steam deck. On the couch? Game on your console if you have one; if you instead have a PC, game on it hooked up here.
Doing non gaming stuff? Well, you probably don’t need a gaming laptop for that - a “productivity” laptop makes more sense.
And of course, that’s where MacBooks shine.
Not with the one I installed (CoreKeyboard). And it’s only usable in Desktop mode.
Once in Desktop mode, you have to launch it (or set it to auto launch). Then it puts an icon in the system tray and you can click that to show the keyboard. There’s a key on the keyboard to hide it.
There’s probably a better keyboard out there for the Steam Deck specifically, but for my purposes it works well enough.
In case you didn’t know, you can install a different onscreen keyboard from Discovery. It’d be nice if the default keyboard didn’t lack those fundamental features, though.
Both possibilities can be concerning, but that doesn’t mean every discussion of one of them necessarily has to include discussion of the other.
JetBrains IDEs - IntelliJ, WebStorm, PyCharm, GoLand, etc., all support highlighting SQL embedded in another source file or even inside markup files like YAML. Does your IDE not support this?
If they’re talking to me? Moron. If they’re talking to someone who pronounces it the other way? Unconventional comedic genius.
Do you have any basis for your opinion other than “it feels like this other thing that I think should be fine but that is also illegal?”
Sure. On your side, you have your opinion. On my side I have legal precedent. You’re welcome to continue having your opinion, even though it’s unfounded and you’ve been told as much.
Thus why it’s prohibited in the future.
This is like going to a hotel and asking to see a list of people who stayed in the hotel last week because the suspect is probably staying nearby.
Going to the hotel and asking is fine. It’s up to the hotel to protect their guests’ privacy in such a case. It’d probably be more productive if they asked the hotel staff about particular suspicious behavior that they’d personally seen, especially if they could narrow down the time frame, though. “Did anyone smelling like smoke come through after 11 PM last night?”
But the issue wasn’t what the police did - it was what the judge did. This situation would be more like if a judge issued a warrant for such a request without any evidence linking the hotel itself to the crime.
Getting a warrant for the entire guest list would not be appropriate, though - at least, not without specific evidence linking a suspect to that specific hotel. “The crime was committed nearby” isn’t sufficient. They need evidence the suspect entered the hotel, at minimum.
Sounds like a pretty good way to get leads without asking for too much info.
Sounds like a pretty good way to trample over the privacy rights of the hotel guests who’ve done nothing wrong.
While he’s in the prison’s custody, it’s their responsibility to provide him with his prescribed medication, and the judge knows that they haven’t been doing so. The judge has been presented with a statement from the defendant’s HCP stating that he “will be severely negatively impacted in his ability to assist in his own defense,” but the judge is ignoring this because he thinks Bankman-Fried “seems fine.” That doesn’t piss you off? You’re lucky if you’ve never had to experience someone in a position of authority over you saying that you’re obviously fine when you know you’re not.
He has a prescription for 3-4x 10mg tablets per day. He has not been receiving that.
He also has a prescription for Ensam that he has not been consistently receiving. Ensam interacts with Adderall, and getting both of them inconsistently could have even more dramatic effects. I’m not sure how going off Ensam compares to other anti-depressants but many of them can have pretty rough side effects.
Per the CNBC article, he did get an updated prescription for XR Adderall, but - presumably because that has to go through the prison system - the judge indicated that won’t be available until Thursday. The judge refused to delay proceedings because he hadn’t gotten an updated medical opinion on the matter:
After the jury exited Monday, Kaplan addressed the issue, saying that he got notice that the extended-release Adderall that was requested would not be available until Thursday. The judge added that he had not observed a problem with Bankman-Fried in court and was inclined to proceed as planned. He did acknowledge that he was not a medical professional but noted that he had not received any updated medical opinions on the matter. “I can’t have lawyers giving drugs to people on trial,” he said.
I get the impression that he’s saying “I don’t care what your psychiatrist thinks. You’re not fidgeting or sobbing, so obviously your ADHD and depression aren’t big enough issues to delay the trial.”
Given that the medical opinion that Kaplan already received stated that it was important that Bankman-Fried receive his medication as prescribed, why does Kaplan need an update? Nothing has changed. This is the letter he received back in mid-August:
Dear Judge Kaplan:
Mr. Sam Bankman-Fried has been under my psychiatric care since February of 2019. Mr. Bankman-Fried has a history of Major Depressive Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
For over 5 years, Mr. Bankman-Fried has been prescribed Emsam 9mg/24hrs transdermal patch.
The Emsam patch is FDA-approved for treatment of Major Depression. The oral version of this medication, is not FDA-approved for treatment of Major Depression. The transdermal patch allows 73% of the medication to enter the blood stream while the oral version delivers 4% into the bloodstream. Additionally, due to its interaction with the gut, the oral medication has a dangerous side effect, the potential for hypertensive crisis (a severe elevation of blood pressure), and thus it is not possibly to give a high dose of selegiline orally to compensate for the poor rate of delivery into the bloodstream. The patch is unique and there are no equivalent alternative treatments.
Of note, Mr. Bankman-Fried has tried other antidepressants (SSRI and Wellbutrin) and they were ineffective for his symptoms. Additionally, there have been times when Mr. Bankman-Fried did not have access to the Emsam patch (typically when travelling/abroad) and exhibited symptoms of depression, including lethargy, anhedonia, low motivation, and increased ruminations.
For the past 3 years, Mr. Bankman-Fried has been prescribed Adderall 10mg tablet 3-4x/day (the medication is FDA-approved for doses up to 45mg/24hrs) for ADHD. This medication has been effective for treatment of Mr. Bankman-Fried’s inattention and ADHD-related rumination.
Without the aforementioned psychiatric medications, Emsam 9mg/24hrs patch and Adderall 10mg tablets, Mr. Bankman-Fried will experience a return of his depression and ADHD symptoms and will be severely negatively impacted in his ability to assist in his own defense.
I don’t want this to be declared a mistrial or be appealed, but I firmly believe that not being given your prescription medication when you’re in court, despite your doctor having told the judge a month and a half ago that it was necessary, should be grounds for both.
Per their charts, the 4080 (16G) does fine and outperforms the 3090 Ti even at 4K.
