That's really nice of you to say. You're obviously a good facilitator.
I'd suggest we use something already there and bolt on the necessary bits since it is already modular. I have mentioned dolibarr. It came to be as erp system with the ability to disable parts and write sour own modules. It of course is Foss and you can reduce it to say inventory, online shop, maybe procurement and finances, done.
Writing an activity pub module should not be that hard since it uses php and SQL. Full disclosure: I found it hard to make a module on my own but I didn't give it a lot of time next to my work.
Feel free to contact me by mail, matrix or signal if you're more familiar with that.
Feeling alone and uncared for is something we try to solve here. One reason the fediverse exists is to help people be free of constant hate and being forced to look at things they don't want to see in the name of engagement.
It is important for the fedi to stay constructive even in the face of confrontation and trolling. Our backbone are people who bring forth their skills and knowledge. We stand united for them as we stand for our communities.
No problem. Feel free to DM me and discuss getting this set up. Use a quick search for the following words:
free and open source
erp system
dolibarr
You can use Wikipedia for all of them too. I can help you on the tech stuff and keep you independent at least of proprietary crap. VERY important btw.
What I'm thinking is we use a company planning solution to plan a mutual aid campaign. Of course that's overkill but it is modular so we can just run tiny parts of it.
Seeing a lot of good faith invested in the comments here. I'm really proud to be part of the fedi. I hope Dan keeps up the good work and people keep spreading positivity. Not only federation makes us strong and resilient. People being diverse and constructive is a fucking superpower. Thank you all so much.
You never know. Neither online or with your neighbors. Building a reputation system online like the fediseer would be possible to see if someone is legit btw.
I think thats a great idea. Haven't heard of any projects like this yet though.
It should not be impossible to set up though. You could use Foss erp software like dolibarr to plan and calculate everything and it has a shop as well.
But the far bigger reason is that chatgpt does not mix with mental health. Not because it is bad but because it is unreliable, potentially hazardous, controlled by a corporation (and soon elonazi iirc), has potential to manipulate a person into even worse things than advertisement is currently doing.
Science should be on an ABSOLUTELY NOT stance towards chatgpt (and all corpo ai) in therapy.
Please all watch the mandatory viewing exercise called idiocracy as many times as needed until it is understood that we are on the totally wrong path.
I think the biggest hurdle one needs to overcome is prejudice. "Linux is for nerds", " Linux is unstable", "Linux is slow", " Linux is for hackers."
Its all BS. Of course, if you run hype Linux like arch, nix or the like you'll most likely suffer. But mint or Ubuntu just work.
Blender has always been faster and better on Linux, affinity I don't know and resolve I think also works well on Linux.
But please don't believe me. Just get a USB stick, download Linux mint iso and use balena etcher to make a live system. Stick in, reboot, try it non destructively.
The amount of time needed and potential for malicious software makes it a nonstarter for business applications.
Of course I'm talking about Linux. Over 100 customers so far have migrated to proper software this year. I earn less because I can't bill as many hours of support but it's worth to see customers happy and they bring on new customers due to a good experience.
I would probably just rent an instance if I was a mod or creator and just host my community there. I think its understandable that federated admins are much more cautious due to the well known tactic of shooting a „politically foreign“ instance down for other - easier to prove and get away with - reasons.
I host my own instance and its not a huge project in itself but I would never host any community for someone else that even has the remote chance of getting me in hot water, legally. Especially because of my vocal political leaning. I‘m perfectly able to get myself into hot water.
The funny thing is that this is completely impossible. Only very few, very big or very lucky projects have decent ux and i would even ague that they are THAT much better than proprietary stuff under the hood that they are still comically bad in comparison to their technical prowess.
The reason for this - and yes you will probably disagree - is the shit legislation we have accepted over the past decades. People got addicted to overpolished shitapps with gambling mechanics and dark patterns. The way out is gonna be brutal.
So no, we wont get better ux, preriod. We pay for it or we get buttfu**ed by big tech some more. One way to ensure payment is voting as comically left as you can.
