  • I align very much with your tastes, here are some you didn’t mention that I thoroughly enjoyed.

    • Frontlines by Marlo Kloos. Military Sci-Fi, IMO better than both Old Man’s War and Expeditionary Force
    • Palladium Wars, also by Kloos. More good military sci-fi
    • Frost Files by Jackson Ford. Rollicking good time.
    • Doors of Sleep by Tim Pratt. Superb portal sci-fi/fantasy. Skip the follow up.
    • Mickey7 series by Edward Ashton. Clone hijinks.
    • The Passage by Justin Cronin. Post apocalyptic sci-fi vampires.
    • 14 by Peter Clines. I don’t want to say anything more than sci-fi apartment building. Give it a try.
  • Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy them! They help me keep my own thoughts and progress organized. I had been jotting this stuff down in notes for myself, then I thought, “hey, I might as well share this on Lemmy while I’m at it.”

  • I haven’t. I’m aware of the *arrr stuff, but as I mentioned in the post, I’m writing these scripts to learn. I have no illusions that what I’m doing is better than *arrr or filebot or whatever else might be out there, I just like working on projects as a way to learn.

  • This is why I stopped using rss. I fucking hate seeing an headline I’m interested in, clicking to expand and then having to click through to the site to read the article, dismiss the goddam email list overlay, fight with the stupid paywall, and then close the tab out of frustration.

I miss the days of actually reading articles in my rss feed reader.

  • Ubuntu LTS, with all my services in Docker containers.

I know Ubuntu gets a lot of (deserved) hate for some of the shit Canonical pulls, but for now, I like Ubuntu and it works for me.

When I rebuilt my server at the beginning of the month, I was gonna jump to Debian, but my god the Debian website is obtuse. After looking at the site and trying to determine what to download to get Debian with non-free (I’m unfortunately working with an NVIDIA card), I decided to go with Ubuntu. I needed a smooth rebuild process and with Ubuntu I know exactly what I’ll get when I download the LTS server.

    Edit: grammar
