  • Yes. That bitcoin dogshit fell and rose with the covid fall and rise of stocks. You think bitcoin is some profound new form of currency, but it's really just another avenue for wall street to steal from main street.

  • What does "financialize their bitcoin holdings" mean? Do you mean they use leverage (i.e. debt) to buy bitcoin than they could otherwise? That's nothing new and is a common ETF strategy (see BITX). And yeah, it also means the bad times hit much harder.

  • No thanks. I'd rather have 4TB SSDs that cost $100. We were getting close to that in 2023, but then the memory manufacturers decided to collude and jacked up prices.

  • No. Plenty of delicious plants to eat. There is no need to eat disgusting goo in shells.

  • Kamala Harris just chooses whatever she thinks will further her career. She chose poorly. She's just lucky the party was stupid enough to have elevated her to vice president even after her debate performance was so bad that she dropped out before the 2020 presidential race even started. Then the idiotic party elevated her again after Biden (another opportunist piece of garbage who was elevated by the party) was forced to step down after his embarrassing 2024 debate performance was obvious to even deluded party insiders.

  • Reagan is also gone now, guess we can't complain about what he had done either.

  • Don't you know? Users being told the exact location of a file is not user-friendly!

  • Your fart ends where my face begins.

  • Can you take out a mortgage and use it to buy 30-year US treasuries?

  • More likely they're just going to keep up the tariffs or outright ban Chinese vehicles, then continue to let local industry slowly improve their EVs until they catch up. It'll delay much-needed reductions in carbon emissions.

  • I don't know how you can feel that when it's been expressed everywhere including Lemmy. You're missing a talking point of China "stealing IP" though, then you'd have the complete usual set. People were fine with subsidies being used to grow the EV industry in the US (carbon tax credits, direct subsidies to companies like Tesla, income tax credit on US EV purchases, etc) but somehow China subsidizing their own industry is bad. Just because the US corporations took that money to pay themselves more while dragging their feet on producing viable EVs, doesn't mean China is being unfair by making better use of their subsidy money.

  • With sodium ion batteries becoming practical, I heard that this could actually become a side business for desalination plants to supply battery makers, but I don't know how viable it is. Regardless, managing brine is still far less of an issue than fighting war over lack of water.

  • According to this...: https://www.chunkerowaterplant.com/news/water-desalination-cost-per-gallon The cost of desalination per gallon of seawater is "approximately $0.005 to $0.01"

I would assume people would figure it's cheaper to pay that cost than to fight wars over it. Most of the planet is covered in water. Like with food, these resource shortages are largely political. The hardest part is removing these power hungry parasites from power. Immense suffering is endured all because of these few billionaire pieces of radioactive shit.

  • The DNC made him their king in 2020 in order to prevent a Bernie presidency. In return, biden refused to step down until it was too late in 2024, fucking up the whole primary process. To this day, biden thinks "I'm the guy who can defeat trump" when he was carried and dressed up entirely by the DNC, big media, and trump's shitty handling of covid. He's an absolute asshole whose entire political career has only made the country worse overall. A sprinkling of good things like a tiny bit of student loan forgiveness (loans that exist because of the work he put in decades ago forcing student loans to persist through bankruptcy) does not absolve this asshole of the massive amounts of damage he's done.

  • Sending billions in weapons to an ethnostate actively committing genocide is bad, yes.

  • A worse person doesn't make a bad person good.
