If we cannot count on democrats to stand against genocide, which should be the easiest thing to be against, then what makes you think democrats would stand for the people in other ways that conflict with what those in power want?
The only realistic option halting the genocide was putting pressure on the democrats and the only way to apply pressure to a politician for the non-rich is by threatening to withhold a vote for them.
If politicians refuse to listen to voters during an election, which is a most critical time, then clearly they will refuse to listen to voters outside of an election where you can't even threaten to vote them out.
True, and maybe I'm playing a losing game by arguing within that context, but I did want to point out that even under those conditions the "logical fallacy" doesn't fit.
Pointing out hypocrisy is not whataboutism. Whataboutism is when you bring up a separate topic as a criticism to distract from the original topic. For example, if you make fun of my cooking and I bring up your drawing skills in response, that's whataboutism. If you suck at cooking and yet bring up me sucking at cooking, that's just pointing fingers and trying to paint that as a negative for someone else when you possess the same deficiency.
I'm just pointing it out bro, nothing more bro, just mentioning it bro, nothing wrong with constantly running negative stories about China bro, not manufacturing anything bro.
The assumption is that they'll develop some kind of moat, but there are plenty of other AI models on offer or in development. It would also be useless capturing a market when the companies that would be their customers realize they're not making money on the AI themselves.
There may be a dip in prices for a bit, but since covid, more companies have realized they can get away with manufacturing fewer units and selling them for a higher price.
With OpenAI being at the center of the AI hype, I would've thought they'd be raking in the dough instead of losing $5 billion. So it's really just Nvidia making money on this bullshit, huh? It'll hurt when the hype dies down and Nvidia drops from the second top spot on the S&P 500. We're all going to feel that one.
Yeah but israel are supposed to be the good guys so this is fine. Meanwhile Iran, who have been 5 minutes away from having nukes for the past 40 years, are the bad guys and must be destroyed. Iran having nukes means the US cannot threaten them with a direct war and that would be sad.
The responses here reaffirm to me how sweet this setup is for the rich. You've got two parties owned by the rich, with one willing to give a few minor concessions to the peasants, and the masses are stuck between them, but you better vote for the somewhat less bad party or else it's all your fucking fault that everything is bad. Seriously, is the strategy to demand the majority vote for a single party until the end of time? You've got to see how that's impossible under this system. It's a way to shift the blame off the broken system and to make it an issue of individual responsibility. Reminds me of people who bash the poor as lazy people who just need to "get a job".
Given how important climate change is, we really don't want to wait to build up our own industry, especially when the entrenched interests prefer to drag that out as long as possible to maximize profits on existing fossil fuel tech. After all, the US had just as much time (in fact more) to build up that industry as China yet look at where we are compared to them.
So you can excuse genocide because the other guy also supports it?
