  • That’s what they’re doing about driverless cars though. Instead of looking at the data overall they banned all cars from a company as a result of a single event.

I’m not saying driverless cars are there or they aren’t. But let’s not pretend this is a cool headed data driven decision. This is political.

  • I know about time sharing a private jet (or simply renting one). I was looking for something between first class and private. Like you still get 1, 2, 4 seats and share the rest. AFAIK you get the whole plane to yourself if you time share.

  • Battlestar Galactica’s miniseries (episode 1) is just so mind fucking blowing crazy good that just by itself it excuses the lower ratings episodes later on. And there are some, it’s not all 8+. But when it hits, oh boy does it hit.

I’m not sure how it would be on a rewatch, since I watched it from season 1 as it was coming on air, and half the fun was basically spending hours on forums discussing theories about the show between episodes.

  • And that can create unexpected situations, like corporations stealing your patents or patenting all usages of your work, and prior art might be damned, and in some cases even sue you for you own work. There are examples of this for people who didn’t patent or license their work, this is not some weird hypothetical. WTFPL is not a license, it is not clear that it protects you or not.

In the real world, WTFPL has no reasons to exist. If you want to protect your work but want to make it available, there are good permissive open source licenses. Slap an Apache, or CC0 or GPL license.

  • I wonder if there was a semi-private commercial airline if it would be popular. Like more expensive than business class, but you still share with like 20-30 other people.

The problem might be that it needs to have destination that are popular amongst that group of people and enough to fill it. So you end up with three lines…

  • I don’t know how much of a gun it was. Apple has definitely been working on RCS support for a year; you don’t add that in a few months. Similarly I’m pretty sure Apple has been considering USB C in iPhone since at least when they started working on the USB C on iPad, which is what 5 years old?

Of course without pressure they would have probably be slower to move forward, and with Apple secrecy it’s always hard to tell how long things have been ready to ship. But let’s not pretend they just woke up this morning with a horse head in their bed and told their direction team to start working on this.

  • How much would you be willing to pay for your entertainment? Historically 1$/hour isn’t a bad deal. Games used to cost double that on average. Movies have always been 5-10$ per hour if adjusted for inflation. A book is cheaper (say, 20$ for maybe 60h of reading), but an audiobook is around that 1$/hour you’re complaining about.

If you’re really complaining about how you cannot afford to be entertained, I’d surmise it’s a salary problem where the minimum wage hasn’t followed inflation almost everywhere on earth, and not the price of entertainment itself.

My issue with streaming isn’t a cost but a categorization. Even if I subscribe to five services there always seems to be two problems; 1. how do I find shit to watch and on what service, and 2. there always seem to have that elusive content that I haven’t subscribed to and would take me ten minutes to add all my information which honestly is just a blocker. I want TV to be more like music is right now (from a UX), even if I have to pay extra for that convenience.

  • 0$ on my Tesla in 5 years. Literally. No brake change, no transmission, no out of pocket maintenance, not even a windshield fix (though that’s more luck). Changed the tires once.

The battery is still above 90%. We don’t know how long that’s gonna last but we’ll probably just change the battery and not even the brakes.
