Only in some of the most recent and high-end. I think Apple just added one to the iphone within the last year. Qualcomm wasn't much quicker. There's a lot of perfectly good phones out there that don't have AV1 hardware decoders.

It seems more concerning that YT is apparently forcing AV1 when there's no hardware decoder for it (if I'm reading that thread right). Seems like that will make people think their battery is starting to go — better software decoder or not.

As I said, it's on consoles too — including Switch. It's just that it's a secondary platform for it — meaning it may be a lesser experience than on the platform it was ported from.

I'm dubious Android even serves as a base for Kobo's OS. I've seen no evidence to support that claim.

EDIT: if you are referring to Tolinos, they are not simple rebrands of Kobos.

Outward is on consoles as well, though PC is its primary platform.

Tolinos use different processors precisely because they run Android, while Kobos do not.

I'm not aware of any Kobo using Android.

Kobo? No. They have their own firmware.

I don't think famous songs hold any special place for musicians, and this isn't a song famous for its drums (that a drummer would seek out to study). There's a lot of songs out there — sometimes you just miss some.

Could mean that Qwant will be a selectable option included in Firefox. Could mean something else. The last time Qwant partnered with Mozilla, it was on a Qwant-branded version of Firefox.

DDG also has a partnership with Firefox. It's one of the selectable engines included in Firefox (at least in the US).

This is either hyperbole or delusional. Most Firefox users don't even use an ad blocker. Google definitely remains the selected engine for most users. There were even many complaints about the default not being Google during the Yahoo default years.

Screen corners are prime real estate. They have infinite size beyond the screen, allowing you to quickly fling the pointer to them. It's a big reason things like app menus or the Mac's Mission Control are accessed by the screen corners.

The investigation actually started in 2019 under Trump's DoJ.

Sounds like its going for kind of a Pulsar: Lost Colony vibe to the gameplay. Not sure the Project Cars aspect of it really adds to the fun, though. Will keep an eye on it.

VPN use likely spiked in South Korea recently as well, since being blocked by Twitch.

Knowing how hard something is can be a larger barrier than not knowing. But the main barrier preventing space colonies is the same thing preventing ocean colonies — "Why?". What motivation is there to settle space? Exploration and experimentation can be done for motivation of seeing if we can, but settling needs known payoff both for the settlers and the funders.

Asteroid mining is the only current suggested motivation for such a thing. And it's very possible that by the time we figure out asteroid capture, we won't need humans present for that work.

RWBY's a big enough IP that a bunch of companies will likely be interested. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney, Paramount, Netflix, Amazon, and Sony (Crunchyroll) all made bids of some kind for it.
