  • I guess this means Tumblr is coming to the fediverse?

There has been some signs and rumours to that effect since Mastodon started taking off; I believe Automatttic specifically advertised for ActivityPub developers to work on Tumblr?

But Tumblr moving on to a Wordpress base only opens for the option of federation, if that is even accessible in the Wordpress installation that will drive Tumblr — as I understand it. Or has the WP-ActivityPub plugin been rolled into core WP without me noticing?

  • Person. We're talking about a person in a precarious situation who was basically doxxed by Vice, and more or less shrugged off by the general online public.

It's not like you deciding you're not into vaporwave anymore.

  • You're already free to support developers and instance owners financially if they've set up either Patreon, OpenCollective or LiberaPay 🤷 That's money going where it's needed.

If I understand SubClub correctly, it's monetisation on a user level, which in the past has only really given us influencers. I rather enjoy not having that kind of bullshit on the fediverse.

  • Who the hell ever looked at the internet and figured, "The fediverse is really interesting, but it needs more annoying influencers who can be bought by corporations to peddle their wares"?

No thanks, please pack this up where it will not be found again.

  • So maybe an inelegantly hacked together startpage that shows all your feeds in one for the morning coffee?

  • That's a chilling read. Wu was only ever on the periphery of my attention — some tech advice here, the odd flash of TMI there — so I thought nothing of it when she fell off the radar.

Realising that she had gotten so relatively big, despite her circumstances, that government agencies were only waiting for fickle Western users like myself showing signs of indifference, before doing ...whatever they've done to her... serves as a constant reminder that not everone online is here on an equal footing with, say, the average North American or European.

I'd love if some of the terminally online keyboard warriors (that didn't rally to support her last year) might at least do an investigation into her current situation.

    Edited for clarity.

  • Yes please!

  • ...and this latest proposal certainly isn't either of those things.

    This logo is really unpopular

Source? I've only ever seen a handful of strawman arguments that "I'm not offended by the vague resemblance to a pentagram/use of rainbow colours implying LGBTQ+ support, but somebody might be", but its fairly wide adoption suggests that most people — myself included — actually like it.

  • Well played 👏😄

  • Exactly. A logo isn't meant to work at 11 point size in the middle of inline text. The typographical argument is nonsense, and I think this proposal is really a reaction to the idiotic "Satanic panic" over the rainbow pentacle.

  • Exactly. And if needs be, get the existing symbol included in Unicode. It might already be in FontAwesome.

  • What else!? 🏅

  • Yes, but most of all it's

    just a Lemmy client

  • There already is a symbol for the fediverse:

This has existed for years already, is used widely, and IMHO looks way better than this dull attempt. I see no good argument in the campaign website for using this new one instead.

  • I saw, good on them! Until then, what is it...?

  • Fedi client

    (Only connects to Lemmy)

Say it with me, "I've made a Lemmy client".

  • "Can LLMs think like us?"

    No.

    "Can LLMs think—?”

    No.

    "Can LLMs—?"

    No.

  • ...you think Satan is a literal man and "responsible for everything wrong with our society"? 🤯 Allow me to ruin Santa Claus for you next.
