  • DuckDuckGo is not a wrapper for Bing, but is in fact a distinct and independent search engine. DDG does grab some results from bing. but it also grabs from other sources and it's own crawler.

  • In today's skewed political spectrum, "Left" is what would be considered moderate in a reasonable perspective.

  • I use Debian XFCE, and it is perfect for me.

  • I never intend to use a flatpak or snap, and avoid them like the plague. The whole concept is incredibly ugly to me, and wasteful of computer resources.

  • As others have said, most people don't install operating systems. They just buy a system, likely a laptop and run whatever OS is on it. Hardly any laptops come with Linux preinstalled unless you look pretty hard, or are searching specifically for one.

  • Missouri is represented twice in the list, with St Louis as the worst, and Kansas city not far behind.

  • Russia's lander has experienced an "emergency situation" and aborted it's landing attempt. Ground crews are evaluating what to do next.

  • The salient piece of info I got from the article is that players of Women's soccer currently get 1/4 of the pay that players of men's soccer get.

  • From the charts in the article, it looks like levels of infection are up to where they were in May/June 2023. Were you wearing a mask then? It really begs the question: What is the threshold level of infection in which the wearing of masks is critically important?

  • So let's say someone is harassing and abusing somebody on the platform. Blocking gives the victim a recourse. Let's say someone with an extreme ideology, such as a Nazi anti-semite, consistently posts hate at a jewish person. Blocking gives the victim a recourse. Blocking is an essential feature of social media, and Musk is a complete idiot.

  • Far right media considers "Fact Based" to be a "Liberal Bias".

  • Good cops get fired. Do you know what happens when an abusive cop's partner tries to prevent an instance of brutality or racism?

  • By refusing to let the protestors exit the freeway, the police caused the blockage of traffic to be over 3 hours longer, during the handling of all the arrests.

  • If only we had actual "one person, one vote" elections in the U.S. Instead we have a skewed system where rural and southern areas have more weight than coastal urban areas due to how the electoral college is distributed. It has been common for the popular vote to be opposite to the determined vote for president.

  • I remember installing a very very early release of Debian back in the mid 90s on a 486. I have had a Debian system of some sort ever since then.

  • The $700 is just for immediate critical needs. It is not the entire FEMA payout to fire victims for the disaster. Thus the article is misleading propaganda.

"According to administration, 300 FEMA workers are currently on the ground and the agency has provided approximately 50,000 meals, 75,000 liters of water, 5,000 cots and 10,000 blankets.
To further assist survivors, FEMA has activated a transitional sheltering assistance program to help displaced residents find a hotel or motel, as well as a "critical needs" program to provide $700 to eligible people for food, water and other supplies."

  • The basque people would love their land to be this large once again.

  • RFKJ is not a Democrat. His funding is all from MAGA billionaire Trumpers. His media presence is all on far-right sources. His message is conspiratorial Q-anon nonsense. Now he is lockstep with Republican anti-abortion policy. His whole purpose is to undermine any legitimate Democratic party candidacy.

  • There goes a few million dollars... They are playing with very expensive toys.

  • So this is "Austrailia Broadcasting Corporation", not the ABC (American broadcasting Company) which I am familiar with in the US. I presume they share no more than an acronym.
