Hehe, now I get you. But I don't think there is something like "total active..." 😆 It's either the active users or the total amount... You just confused me by using both opposing words in a row.
The total user count is meaningless. Look at the monthly active users. That gives a good picture. And those are the correct links and graphs.
(The total users mainly show how the Reddit exodus happened. Lots of people made an account and used it once. Thus the steep incline in users. But they're not real, just zombie records. Also it's heavily affected by instances moving, shutting down or doing maintenance. Also lots of people here have multiple accounts. And there is some degree of farming and bot activity...)
x^2 = 9
<=>
|x| = sqrt(9)
would be correct. That way you get both 3 and -3 for x.
That's the way your math teacher would do it. So the correct version of the statement in the picture is: "if x^2 = 9, then abs(x) = 3"
Nice, thanks for sharing! I've been waiting for a guide like that.
For reference, here is the discussion about the same thing for the USA: https://lemmy.ml/post/12900909
Hmm, I think summarization is a bad example. I've read quite some AI summaries that miss the point, sum up to a point where the simplification makes sth wrong or the AI added things or paraphrased and made things at least ambiguous. Even with the state of the art tech. Especially if the original texts were condensed or written by professionals. Like scientific papers or good news articles...
What I think works better are tasks like translating text. That works really well. Sometimes things like rewording text. Or the style-transfer the image generators can do. That's impressive. Restoring old photos, coloring them or editing something in/out. I also like the creativity they provide me with. They can come up with ideas, flesh out my ideas.
I think AI is an useful tool for tasks like that. But not so much for summarization or handling factual information. I don't see a reason why further research coudn't improve on that... But at the current state it's just the wrong choice of tools.
And sure, it doesn't help that people hype AI and throw it at everything.
Probably not. Since they're doing exactly this (drop a magnet link out of the blue) for the third time or so in a row... It's more likely a scheme than related to current happenings.
Yes, please do that for Peertube. Creating videos can be expensive and some people do this as a living and they can't use Peertube because there isn't any monetization options.
But please leave me at least one space where i can casually talk to people and that's not all about money.
Edit: Also why specifically do that on a microblogging platform? And I think you missed the interesing aspects of federation. It should also factor that in and split donations between content creators, instance providers and software developers?!
Hmmh. I mean I use a custom rom and Linux out of several reasons. But one of them is I want privacy and to stay in control. Often that requires some extra effort. Using PCs is quite alright for me. But the world of mobile apps is a bit more complicated. I've mostly worked around their crappy stuff by using workarounds like SafetyNet, third party apps and stuff. But it's getting more and more complicated. I kinda stopped bothering. I don't do NFC payments, I don't rent electro scooters because all of that stuff doesn't work. Nobody understands and I've complained to bank staff and it's just not something they care about. We still have a separate working TAN device. But I had to listen to the lecture how good the banking app is for like 3 times. :'-(
I think one of the alternatives is to use something like this: https://github.com/chiteroman/PlayIntegrityFix
If you really need an app. I think I'm going to weed out apps though and see if there are companies who offer better alternatives to their customers or alternative ways to access their services.
I for one just delete apps that stop working on my phone. The PhotoTAN apps usually work fine. But I do my online banking on my laptop so I don't know about the other stuff.
I don't know of any technical problems preventing that per se. But the thunderbolt gpu docks seem quite pricey. You can get half a PC for that money. Or a whole used one. These old ExpressPort adapters used to be cheaper if I remember correctly (the ones which got some PCIE lanes out of an old ThinkPad with some flexible flat cable to a dedicated pcb.) The downside was, it's just a few PCIE lanes. And that's probably also a downside with the thunderbolt version of that. It'd take some time to transfer the model into the GPU's memory this way. But after that it should be fast.
I mean if the drivers etc work with that setup. I'm not an expert. And it's been a while since I last saw people using adapters like that. I wouldn't spend 250€ on that. It's too much compared to the price of that NVidia card and also too much compared to other solutions. I can get a refurbished office PC for that.
I think it's equal zero in this case. I'd have to look up the IEEE specification to make sure. AFAIK it's just not guaranteed for any numbers and depends on the floating point implementation. A general rule of thumb for programmers is not to use 'equal' with floating point numbers.
So far my take is: Yet another microblogging platform?
But I'd like to read/hear something about the details... How does the protocol compare to other existing solutions? Are there free server implementations? How do they handle federation, would I be able to just connect to them and do whatever I want? Or do they retain tight control over the network?
Word of mouth, (social) networking and search functionality. And I think Mastodon as it's focused on people, and Lemmy which is focused on topics, require different handling. There are a few articles out there outlining that Stephen Fry and a few other famous people are on Mastodon. I'm not sure how someone would recommend me my favorite blogger and YouTube stars though, without me searching or clicking on a link next to their content... I think Lemmy is pretty alright. You can enter a term in the search bar and it'll show you the communities with that in the name. Or related posts. Also there are a few websites with listings and directories of communities. The UI could be better though, for example show other communities on cross-posts or include related communities in the sidebar...
And the "proper" way to do it would be to implement what commercial platforms do. Track the users, learn about their interests, have an "algorithm" that gives good recommendations.
Sure. In urban environments the cell tower should be able to determine your location down to a few meters or at least tens of meters. They know the angle from which antenna is in use. And I think I read an article or paper that newer technologies also compensate for the signal delay introduced by the speed of light and your distance... So the phone can hit the slot in the multiplexing correctly. So distance from the cell tower should be known to both parties somewhat precisely. No "active" positioning requests needed. I think requesting the location during an 112 / 911 call has also saved some lives already. I'm not sure if it pops up automatically for the dispatchers, though.
They address that in the last paragraph. I wonder however if this does much. I mean it's just one of several modes and then certain requirements must be met, too. What would carriers send such requests for in non-emergency scenarios anyways?
Wow, 32GB + 32GB used up... Yeah, good guess 😅 Good luck fixing the issue.
Sounds like maybe a memory leak and your RAM getting used up and the system then swapping and becoming unresponsive due to that?! I'd keep an eye on the RAM usage for a start.
Yay! 👏🎉
