  • I think people should worry more about keeping their attention span in check rather than solely focusing on screen time.

Most people these days are going to spend a significant chunk of their time online, so I don't think it's only just Brazil.

I notice people getting bored in the middle of conversations and pulling up their phones. It's quite annoying but I got used to it.

  • Atomic Habits is a good book. I'd say implementing the system suggested in the book should eliminate the need for using will power altogether.

  • I just use whatever that does the job. Sometimes I switch to systemd free distros just to know what it's like (currently checking out dinit version of Artix)

I think most of the discrimination arises from a way of thinking which puts minimalism, simplicity and speed as the first priority and starts a unhealthy obsession over it. Sometimes keeping things too minimal can require more work than doing the actual work. This can also be seen in people who rave about WMs vs DEs and Wayland vs X.

Oh and I use XFCE btw. I feel like that's the DE which gives me enough control over everything while not bombarding me with a truck ton of settings. I started using DEs again because I was spending all my time ricing away with window managers (and none of my rices were not even that good).

  • This used to be one my daydreams as a teenager. Except in real life, I couldn't consistently train like I wanted.

After reading Atomic Habits by James clear last year - I realized how much I could have improved during those years had I kept at it.

But just like you said everything can be ended anytime with a single gun shot or some quick stabs from the back.

  • I guess joining the military may help. Especially since one can get a lot of training with guns there.

As much as I would like to attempt, my chances are close to none because of low vision.

  • He also had that bullet resistant suit on him which helped a ton. There's a video by the Hacksmith to recreate the suit but obviously real world results were nowhere near John Wick's suit.

  • I have a similar experience, although it may not be comparable to yours.

I grew up in a very strict household. My parents constantly checked up on me while I was a teenager and that too in a super sneaky way. At first I used to get jumpscared then I gradually became more aware of my surroundings (even through earphones on with music on low volume)

So I can confirm that this works. Its like using subconcious fear to boost sensory input I guess.

  • That is a valid take. I also agree with this person who I assume, has touched grass.

I know that is a B.S question But I wanna know how close one can get own their own.

  • I sometimes use sticky notes in the bathroom. I stick one on the mirror right where my face appears. That way I will at least read it before removing it.

But once you get used to it you will stop paying attention. Now I only use it occassionally.

  • When I have to use windows, I mostly use an application called

to open Apps. So I really don't miss the start button much.

  • Excercise has been helpful for clearing up my head. When I get distracted during work, I would do some jumping squats or push ups and my head will be back in the game. This is only possible because I work from home. It's not always an option when I'm outside.

I try not to use my phone when I'm with people. There has been a couple of instances where I got sucked into the phone and my spatial awareness just stopped working.

Some group settings just aren't for me, the topics they bring up or the way the conversation flows may be boring - so I just stop listening actively and think about something else.

Like you mentioned I should really see a Doctor and a Therapist just in case.

I believe that the lack of quality sleep is also affecting me. I only get less than 6 hours of sleep most days.

  • Thanks, I'll try cleaning when I space out next time.

  • Sometimes when I don't get enough sleep, I get that tired feeling while spacing out.

  • I feel the same way. Unfortunately friends and family just doesn't use anything other than Whatsapp. I've tried moving some of them to signal but they were back on WhatsApp within a week or two.

  • I have not used pop recently. To be fair both are kind of similar, at least base wise. So one cannot go wrong with any of the two. I like the traditional layout of cinnamon better than Gnome (out of the box) so I'll pick Mint.
