  • I'll probably go the long-cable route. It's a 2008 car, so I'm not winning any style points anyway. I'll ask my mechanic if they could hardwire it next time I'm in.

    Thanks!

  • I hadn't thought of mounting behind the mirror and running wiring along the edge of the window. That makes sense, thank you. I'll take a look at your suggestion. 😊

  • I'm mostly worried about wiring and having a distraction in my field of view, so mounting behind the rear-view mirror might work. I already have a parking tag there, but there might be space for both. Thanks!

  • I thought about a mobile app, but something that consistently records is better than relying on my faulty memory.

    I'll take a look at 70mai, thanks.

  • Online glasses places are pretty cheap and good quality, if you know your pupillary distance and your prescription isn't complicated. ⭐Encouragement⭐

  • Is there a reason you've split the page up into the categories you've used, instead of using the sections in the Project 2025 pdf? If you get enough people interested in keeping this updated, it might make sense to divide the work up by section (I take 3.10, the department of agriculture, for example) instead of hoping to catch everything in the 900 page document.

The owner of each section could split it out into action items, then watch for if those action items are acted on. Put it in a sortable table by topic/section.subsection/blurb/page#. If I find time and motivation, I'll go claim a section and do that in the github as a proof of concept.

  • I'm debating a tattoo of a cute critter on my wrist. I have a tendency to bite my wrist when I'm over-stressed and I figure I might think twice about hurting Cute Critter.

  • Thanks :) I'm probably a bit wary after by watching friends jump through hoops to move to Japan with their pup. Japan has many hoops because they're rabies-free, which, I didn't think Europe has the same concern.

My pup is also 16, so sadly I won't have to worry about him forever.

  • Good question. It might shake out differently for eBay and Facebook because they make it clearer that you're buying from an individual or store. I don't think Facebook even takes a cut.

  • I'm trying! I'm working towards proving I'm Polish-by-descent, then I'll be able to hold an EU passport. It's slow going.

And in the mean time, I'm in a trans-friendly state, can pass as cis and hetero, and I'm white. I have a go bag and a US passport that matches my birth gender. My next steps are improving my food stores to protect against tariff impacts.

The only things that tie me to this country are my friends (who are also looking into exit plans and whom I talk to online more than in person) and my dog (I imagine moving to a new country with a dog is even harder than finding an apartment with a dog). Oh, and I really love my job and my coworkers, but my job might go away with all of the societal upset.

  • In my friend's case, it's a web development company that's been around for at least a decade. His previous machine at the same company was a Dell, I think.

  • What about a Framework laptop?

Edit: or a desktop that you can remote into from your personal machine if you want to work outside the office?

  • I had an old cf-27 toughbook with a handle. Handles on laptops are wicked handy!

  • My USA town will let you look up your taxes with just your last name and first initial. You can find out what real estate and car someone owns with that. Dog license seems to be in a different system.

My salary is public information because I'm a public employee.

  • I'm a millennial and my college required that test prior to enrolling in classes. That was the first time I took the (rather distressing, tbh, maybe they should have to warned me) skin inflatey test.

I just looked and my college still requires that test. So, might just be a regional thing. Grad school in the same state didn't require the test, so maybe it had to do with staying in the dorms in undergrad?

  • Like how my brother "rescued" a puppy by buying it from a pet store. (16 years ago, and yes I don't approve of puppy mills. Pup now lives with me and is a good grumpy old man dog)

  • Things must have changed since I was a kid in the US. I remember being told to start walking when my ride home fell through. They wouldn't let me use a phone to call for another ride (pre cell phone). The teacher did ask if I knew how to get home and I did, but the only route I knew was along the high way.

    That happened a few times.

  • Thanks. My ancestors avoided WWI and WWII by emigrating. I can't judge them for that, so it feels fair to give myself the same option.

  • I really don't know. Me personally, I'm pursuing citizenship in an EU country so I can at least have an exit strategy other than "drive to Canada and hope they let me in". Other than that, I'm active in my union and I talk with my neighbors. I walk my dog and am visibly a Nice Normal Person who happens to be Queer.

It's scary being queer here, so I might tone that down a bit as I get more scared. Which is what They want, but, hey, I'm scared.
