WINE itself is open source, but it's designed to facilitate the use of proprietary software. (This is because although it can be used to run open-source Windows software, best practice would be to recompile or port that stuff to Linux instead.)
If proprietary software is often malware and WINE is designed to facilitate proprietary software, then WINE is designed to facilitate malware.

Linux has a bunch of different "desktop environments" (user interfaces that look and act somewhat different). Cinnamon is one of them that happens to feel relatively familiar to folks migrating from Windows.
(If you want to get a feel for what different DEs are like, try downloading different variants of the Ubuntu distribution — plain Ubuntu (with the GNOME DE), Kubuntu (KDE), Xubuntu (XFCE), Lubuntu (LXDE), etc. — which differ only in which DE they come with by default. Run them straight off a flash drive to try them out.)
Personally, I tend to use KDE, but it's a choice very much based on personal taste rather than any objective superiority of one DE over another.
What opposition? I see folks complaining about excessive size of individual instances (mostly out of concern that power imbalances could develop), but basically nothing against the growth of the network as a whole.
They don't have to, since it's a one-way medium instead of a conversation. Even if they did get misinterpreted, how are they gonna find out? Some disgruntled reader mailing them a letter?
This instance (lemmy.ml) is one that still federates with lemmygrad, last I noticed. Even then, although the number of unhinged tankies I see here is non-zero, it still isn't large. (In fact, it's mainly one particular user that stands out. Y-something, with a name using a bunch of stylized high-unicode characters.)
When I'm on lemmy.world, which I think has defederated from lemmygrad, I pretty much don't see them at all.

Downhill is the situation in which ebikes are least likely to exceed the speed of regular bikes. Since the motor is designed to cut out at 20 mph anyway then it won't help you go faster downhill, but it will continue to have increased rolling resistance. And if it's no worse than a regular bike, it isn't a problem.
The "shareholders" are the managers of large mutual funds, who are in the same 1%er good-ol'-boys club as the CEOs. They're the ones voting the huge blocs of shares within the mutual funds.
The middle-class folks who actually own the shares indirectly via the funds in their retirement accounts have been completely disenfranchised.

For the record — since almost nobody seems to have bothered to read what he actually said, instead preferring to blindly believe the character assassins' secondhand interpretation — the only thing RMS did "wrong" was failing to conform to the societal assumption that the teenager involved had zero agency just because she was young and should instead be treated exactly the same as if she were a small child. He didn't even claim she did have agency; he just refused to discount the possibility out of hand.
In other words, he got cancelled for being too respectful and feminist toward her (along with using careful logic and not jumping to conclusions unsupported by facts just because the topic was taboo).
I mean, this is a guy who was inventing neopronouns before it was cool. He's literally the most egalitarian-minded person I can think of, and is about as far from a male chauvinist as you can get!
Frankly, the whole situation reeks of wanting to weaken the Free Software Foundation and bend it towards corporate interests by discrediting the most prominent copyleft and users' rights hard-liner. But I can't prove that, so I'll stop short of actually claiming it.
(I also won't claim that the speed at which people were willing to believe the accusations at face value was due to their latent ableism and lack of understanding towards autistic people. Although RMS certainly acts autistic IMO, to my knowledge he's never claimed to have been diagnosed with that condition.)
