  • Genocide is what they're up to. People could at least be honest with themselves about what they're supporting.

    Article 2 of the Convention defines genocide as

    ... any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such

    (a) Killing members of the group;
    (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
    (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
    (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
    (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
    — Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Article 2[7]

    It's as plain as day.

  • I agree in the sense that I hope the country can affirm support for it and much more wrt climate action. We've got a few months distance so it's out of people's short term memory but a lot of Canada burned down this year. Fully half my summer was blanketed in wildfire smoke. Turning an entire season (the best season) from great to awful is a loss of living standard that's hard to reckon with. We need to make this a central issue.

  • This watch dog group was able to find this content. You don't think the producer of the database should have any responsibility for the content within it? If it's not feasible for you to guarantee that the contents of your product are legal/ethical, maybe that's a problem?

  • The key to creating significant change is not electing this or that individual 'hero' to office hoping they will bring down the system from the inside or something. Over and over again we see that people have to compromise with the superstructure of power that exists around the party they are member of in order to maintain the support of that party and thus keep their position. Instead, we must create a unified and sustained labour movement that no politician can say no to and keep their job. That's why Shawn Fain's appeal to every union to unify their next contract negotiation with UAW on May Day is so important. We don't hope for change, we make it happen.

  • They used to have a much better grasp on this sort of thing. "Is so-and-so a groomer? I don't know, but people have been saying. I'm just asking questions..." and so forth. Couching your bs accusations in uncertain language to protect you from the libel lawsuit you clearly deserve. I guess it's good they seem to be forgetting about that tool more frequently.
