  • In the video, a man wearing what appears to be a commissionaire’s jacket sits dimly lit behind the wheel of vehicle.

He speaks of his “mission” to fight tyranny and corruption in society. The four-minute speech, delivered calmly and dispassionately, criticizes inflation, expensive housing, multiculturalism, “wokeism,” the fighting in Gaza, immigration, bullying, racism and genocide.

That's quite the grab bag. It's like he's fully bought into the reactionary nativist politics some sectors are selling, but can't see the direct correlation between that and his last three complaints.

  • Well that will certainly go to appeal. I watched (and listened, through their Zello channels) that entire event very closely. I was still laid off from covid at that point so I had the time. The local authorities were doing sweet FA and the federal government was absolutely justified in doing what it did. After 3+ weeks of no action by local authorities and thus no movement with clearing this siege the feds stepped in and cleared it up in a day or two. That shows how little resolve the convoy participants really had and thus how little the Ottawa police were interested in doing their jobs.

  • I feel like this chart tells a pretty clear story about where all our affordability issues are coming from.

I also suspect if the top quintile were separated out into it's own graph of this nature, it would probably have a similar look where the majority of the wealth held by that 20% is held by the top few percent of the group.

  • This could just be a feature of getting good things when we give the NDP a larger share of power than usual, though. The Liberals didn't want universal healthcare, it was a concession given to the NDP because they had to. But it's not like a majority NDP situation at the time wouldn't have passed it.

Much the same as dental care today. What exactly are the Liberals bringing to the table other than acting as gatekeepers making sure the system isn't as expansive as it could be?

  • Donations to third party advertisers, such as TBA, are supposed to be spent on advertising, but Parker said Elections Alberta has also accused him of enriching himself off of those donations. He claimed he has the receipts to prove this isn’t the case.

So what's the problem? It seems like your exoneration should be easy.

Maintaining he did nothing wrong, Parker announced that he will nonetheless be disbanding the Take Back Alberta Society, which is officially registered with Elections Alberta as a third-party advertiser and, in a clever-by-half scheme, replace it with a new non-profit called Take Back Alberta, which won’t be registered as a third party advertiser.

That’s the bad news. “But the good news,” he added, “is everyone that currently sits on the board and all of the current captains that are working on setting up meetings for Take Back Alberta are not working for the legal entity that is under investigation.”

Gosh, for some reason I get the impression that you have things to hide.

  • Yeah, this really sucks. I had been using the Nelson Star as a source since I read about them refusing anti-abortion advertising but judging from the usual effect of American investment companies buying up Canadian media, that sort of stance wont be standing long. On top of my just plain not being interested in being told about my country from a source subject to American interests.

  • You elected Justin Trudeau, and he seized the bank accounts. You’re just fucking pathetic. And the fact that you have no fucking backbone, and have him shut down your country and seize fucking bank accounts

This is the distilled propaganda line US right wing media is pushing about Canada since the convoy, by the way. To the extent that we get mentioned, this is the image that's being crafted about us for about 35-45% of the US.
