We don't need to increase the military budget to 5% of GDP, a greater share than the US currently spends on it's military by 1.6%. That's insane and will certainly mean cuts to services like health care.

Taxes cut under this government:

1. Consumer carbon tax
2. Capital gains tax increase
3. Digital Services Tax

Carney cuts taxes like he won as leader of the CPC.

Carney is running to the Conservatives for support more than he is the NDP. There's a lot to criticize him for from the left. Whereas the right has got three tax cuts and a promise to hugely increase the military budget in just a few months of this government.

Between selling out Canada's sovereignty and the NATO target he's doing a lot of appeasing. I don't think he deserves all the grace you're giving him.

Canada's sovereignty means that little to you? Your elected representative just got overruled by a foreign leader.

I really don't care what the trade deal looks like, letting the US president dictate Canada's internal tax policy is a bridge too far for me.

I don't agree, but even if I grant it do you feel great about a hostile foreign leader dictating your country's laws? The DST was finished legislation, legally passed by Canadian's elected representatives. And now it's gone. Because Trump says so.

Carney sure seems like he's in a hurry to use any excuse to cut a tax. Letting Trump dictate Canada's internal policy is one hell of a win to give away.

One of the tax cuts and the military spending target being direct capitulations to Trump. Great start. What's next, we end national health care and open the Canadian market to US health insurance companies?

The French Revolution was ultimately a bourgeois revolution that signalled the transfer of power from aristocrats to capitalists. It's fine to enjoy the aesthetics of it but we will have to go further than the French did.

Don't Republicans hate New York? You'd think they'd be thrilled with the opportunity for socialism to ruin one of the bluest cities in the US. Maybe they're worried something else will happen.

Personally I reserve downvotes for rulebreaking, offensive comments, spam, things of that nature. Differences of opinion I just don't upvote. Perhaps this is more common on Lemmy than other places.

I'm sorry but cutting regulations and giving handouts to business for "development" has been the order of the day for the last 40 years and it's been bullshit. It's not any less bullshit because a new red tory face is selling it. It will end up the same old story: Huge promises of future income fall flat followed by "necessary" cuts.

It was one commenter and the following comments rebuking them are much more highly upvoted. It's maybe a bit early to stick a fork in it.

For comparison, the US who spends more than the next what, ten? states combined on their military is at 3.4% of gdp. We're not spending 5% of our gdp on the military without huge cuts. Is it worth your healthcare? Because that shit is done in this scenario.
