  • I can't speak to that, but a lot of the information the article says they are looking for they couldn't find via reddit. They'd have to compel Mr. S personally to get a lot of this stuff:

    1. All written communications with RCN concerning piracy from Oct. 1, 2017 to the present.
    1. Payment records to RCN from Oct. 1, 2017 to present.
    1. All personal computing records pertaining to usage of BitTorrent from Oct. 1, 2017 to the present.
    1. All social media account usernames used including for Reddit, Twitter and Facebook January 1, 2016 to present.
    1. All Reddit posts and messages from Jan. 1, 2016 to the present
    1. Records of all movie piracy websites (including but not limited to YTS, 1337x, RARBG, Torrent Galaxy, The PirateBay) that were used at your Internet service.
  • Seventy-one people have so far died from exhaustion following the world’s largest single-day election in Indonesia last week, according to the government. Some 4,000 others fell sick between Feb 14 and Feb 18 due to fatigue after helping run the Feb 14 election, Hasyim Asy’ari, chairman of the nation's poll body said in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

The latest election still claimed dozens of lives even after the government imposed an age cap for volunteers and mandated health checks after more than 500 polling station workers died following the 2019 vote.

What is going on there, Indonesia? That's abnormal to say the least. These are not groupings of words you would expect to be seeing outside of like an election being held during a civil war or something.

  • This is the truth. If you want the industry to change, don't go to restaurants who do the tipping model. If you go to these places and don't tip in some misguided attempt to change things, guess what. The owner just felt zero difference. They got paid 100% what they were expecting. It's the waitstaff who just felt it. So why would the restaurant owner, the guy with the power to change things and not notable for giving a shit about their staff, care about your protest at all? Assuming they notice which they aren't going to.

The only way to actually mount financial pressure on these places is to not go to them.

Of course, I assume most people who claim to be not tipping as some form of protest against the system just want to take advantage of the lower prices allowable by the lowered wage that waitstaff receive while claiming to be doing it for some higher purpose.

[edit] And the controversial nature of this blatant reality proves my point. People understand the nature of the system and want to abuse a service worker to their benefit while claiming to be doing so from some sort of moral high ground. You're lying. To yourself, to the rest of us, you are full of shit. If you actually believed in changing the system you would do as I say and not participate in businesses that use it.

  • This is the fundamental flaw with conceiving of politics as points on a line. "Moderates" aren't actually in the middle of things. They are their own political philosophy. But it's not as though you add communism and fascism together and divide by two and you get neoliberalism. They are all distinct philosophies.

  • This guy's "plan" for fixing housing is cutting funding to cities if they don't fix it. Seems like Pierre isn't particularly interested in staying in his lane, either. Which is totally reasonable, the federal government should care about housing. Just like it should care about the rights of its citizens.
