In the book count of monte cristo, he gets like, a single small chest of gold and gems. And that's supposedly enough to live like kings for multiple lifetimes. Compared to the movie version where it's dozens of large chests and at one point they just give a guy an entire wagon full of gold.

This. Also in real life, people with specific talents know they're rare and charge accordingly. Pornhub is full of average stuff and if that does it for you great (though I'd argue anyone considering themselves a 'porn addict' is unlikely to be satisfied with basic porn)

I personally don't think you're wrong, but I also feel like Hollywood execs are no longer interested in the type of stories that make good movies. Movies are tight, self contained stories delivered in a couple of hours. Most of the good ones (Critically acclaimed) don't get that many sequels. Those are infinite cash cows, which is what execs prefer.

Premium series are infinitely expandable and are readily able to adapt larger narrative works. They're potentially endless wells of money. Seems like the industry wants to move in that direction.

Which party a school board member was a part of was incredibly impactful during the pandemic and directly influenced what actions were taken to protect the students. 'non partisan' is a myth in this day and age.

If I'm honest, I don't think many will care enough to do anything.

My personal theory is that there's a biological split in our species. Like how some people taste soap when they eat cilantro and others don't. I think some of us are wired to need and want a leader and others do not. The evolution of not needing a leader has not fully propagated to the whole species yet.

Would sky trains be as reliable? I assume subways are more reliable partially due to not being exposed to the elements.

Honestly kind of bold of them, given that anime watchers tend to be extremely familiar with piracy and it was only the efforts of Crunchyroll and other easy to use services that finally managed to make legal anime a reasonable option. They aren't so entrenched that people won't go right back to pirating again.

It's not worth it if I no longer control my own hardware

My job isn't bullshit, but management has no concept of the true amount of time it takes to do my job. Depending on projects I can go from 2 hours of work a week up to around 60 hours of work a week. With the majority of weeks being under 40 hours. And yet management somehow thinks that they're giving me 8 hours of work to do every day despite them regularly being the blocker to new work.

Definitely agree. Innovation has slowed down. Time will tell if the 1900s was just a complete fluke or not, but personally I think at least part of the slow down is due to the slow collapse of capitalism and democracy. Feels like we're just trudging along purely on inertia since the end of WW2. Like we're an old beat up car that's been patched and duct taped together so much. The whole system feels like it's just ground to a halt and all 'new' progress is just marketing from grifters who've captured the system.

I wasn't claiming the tech was similar. But VR has had several surges in hype over the years. It'll come to the forefront for awhile, then fade to the background again, until something else happens to bring it back to people's attention again.

Yep. IMO it'll be kinda like VR. AI will sort of plateau for awhile until they find a new approach and then the hype will kick up again. But the current approach won't scale into true AI. It's just fundamentally flawed.
