  • No fucking chance Sony's going to let a rival set up shop on their own consoles. Not even a possibility. Look at how much Apple and Google fought with Epic over keeping them off their phones. And that's just over a secondary app store on a device that can do a million different things that the parent companies can still find ways to monetize. You're talking about a competitor selling a subscription to bypass PlayStation's only source of sales. Sony will fight that with everything they've got and no cut of the subscription fees will ever be enough to change their minds.

  • OK, but is it actually booming?

Piracy of movies and T.V. shows really took off when torrents first appeared in the early 2000s. It seemed to peak five or six years ago, as new streaming services proliferated.

According to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, piracy bottomed out in 2021—before increasing again. “Current piracy levels are still nowhere near what they were five years ago,” Van der Sar wrote in a recent article.

We're seeing a slight uptick possibly because of how fractured and inconsistent the streaming services have become, but we're definitely not in some piracy renaissance yet.

  • The money goes to billionaire weapons manufacturers that perpetuate war because that is their business. We pay them to arm Ukraine and beta test new weapons on Russians to sell those new weapons later to Israel to kill Palestinians. Looking at weapons deals for Ukraine as if it's a self contained bubble where the good guys win is delusional.

  • Sure. I'm in no rush to replace my car with one of these, but it's a great thing that this technology is already in production. With these actually going into real cars that people can buy and drive, we'll get more data so that any serious issues will hopefully be identified and addressed in the next generation.

  • I need to try it out. If it's as good as its reputation implies and stays that way, I'd be $5/mo amount of interested. But I have no idea how many times I'm going to need to search for something per month. Not a fan of that limitation.

  • Please, someone tell me how the fuck these protests get organized? I've been scouring IG for upcoming demonstrations in LA and nobody's registering their actions on Shut It Down For Palestine. For months I've tried to get involved and it feels impossible for any full time worker to help take action for Palestine. Best case scenario is I find out about an event a few hours beforehand when I'm already in the office and it's too late for me to be there.

  • Shit take. Fascism is never out of the picture and spouting "vote blue no matter who" only pushes the window closer to it. You'll just say the same thing in 4 years when it's Trump again or one of his many soundalikes vs another genocidal Zionist wearing a D by their name. Engaging with the 2 party system validates it and it will never be "healthy."
