  • I recently discovered #16 black pepper. It truly can make things spicey. But table ground? Ha!

I know someone allergic to capsaicin. I've seen him eat the mildest salsa and turn red. He also sweats to black pepper. Maybe your father has a similar allergy.

  • What about sandwiches made with rolls and bagels?

Also, I see the aussie point, but, in the US, burger is short for hamburger, which refers to the meat itself. Do you only say ground beef too? Or is ground beef also called hamburger?

And also... Is a burger not considered a type of sandwich?

I hadn't heard of this dialect difference. Fun stuff!

  • Ha ha. Clearly the avg lemmy user is inexperienced or business ignorant. The site does lean heavy Marxist, which says plenty of their reasoning skills. I was thinking the same thing as you and you're getting skewered for it. Hedge funds are not looking for a 20+ year ROI, which is what it took Bezos. That's the simplest answer I can think of, but I'm sure there's plenty more reasons they didn't think young Bezos' idea was worth throwing millions at.

  • It adds wear and tear to a car. The hot engine no longer has coolant running through it, hot oil drains off, etc. This is especially bad for turbos. So now the engine wears out sooner, which means the car is replaced sooner. Pulling a car out of service adds a huge amount of production resources, energy, and waste to an individual's footprint.

There are also calculations that can be done to determine how much fuel is saved. More fuel is burned at startup. You have to be stopped and off for a minimum period of time to reduce fuel consumption. That time is heavily dependent on many factors. But it's been found that generally you're not saving fuel unless you're at a light just as it turns red.

The wear and tear is the biggest issue. The worst thing you can do to an otherwise normal working engine is take it from 0 to 5000+ rpm in such short time.

  • Context is important. If we focused on perfect safety like this for other forms of transportation we'd never fly, take trains, drive cars, ride on boats, or anything else. Self driving has a significantly better safety record than humans. That context is critical. It doesn't mean that we stop striving to be safer; it just means it's reasonable to use it in many circumstances.

  • You've got a jam. Filament is dried and burnt up in there. PETG is a lot more fluid / lower viscosity when hot, so it's flowing around the crusty. Take off nozzle, remove PET tube. You should have another PET tube in the spares bag that came with the printer. Clean out the extruder well.
