  • Whenever my father's family wanted to convey what an injury felt like or needed a theoretical weapon the humble 2x4 was always used. Thanks for bringing back memories of the old folks telling stories around a fire or in a crowded, smoky kitchen. :)

  • My family would do this but for say 10+ years. One year my cousin decided to cage a sip from everyone he could and was also downing unattended drinks. Yeah, ended like you think. We all learned a valuable lesson that night. :)

  • I am looking for a specific series that has about 40 books, spent about $35 so far at $5 each. Its pulp sci fi from the 60s. They take a couple days to read. I'll keep paying but noone involved in the original work is seeing a cent of this.

I can't find them at my library other than three audiobooks.

  • We were way back in the woods. My brother thought it would be funny to read Deliverance at camp. We had just cleaned after dinner when he came up from the lake, having washed our dinner dishes, saying "there's two guys coming in a canoe".

They were hammered, smoking and drinking beer, and reeked of b.o.

They started poking around our camp rudely and making remarks that were vaguely menacing.

Eventually, my father was able to convince them he'd been fishing at this lake since he was a boy and dropped a few names in a non-boasting way.

They left but it was freaky for a bit. I figure they had an outdoor grow op. It was a week or two from harvest time.

  • I think his whole mission is "get elected, pardon myself". He will do this in the most shameless way possible to highlight the fact that he "got away with it".

People around him are probably sick of explaining state vs federal and all the other things he gets wrong.

I also think he's just got an SOP to delay any legal proceeding by default.

  • Boardroom:

    • people will like coming into the office if we create a fun atmosphere
    • like a party!
    • we can't have an actual party
    • ok, how about a DJ

HR, legal, and so on: they can go in the parking lot.

Weeks later an admin is told to book a DJ, I don't care what it costs but they have to work in the parking lot.

DJ has to be set up in the parking lot but will only do it if they can be there all day otherwise too much set up and take down.

Ok, if they have to be here I want them playing all the time. Otherwise, we are wasting money.

Contract shows up with "daily, renewed every month unless 30 days written notice."

    And so on.

  • As someone who had a rheumatologist tell me the grinding sound my neck made was "everything getting better" when really my neck and spine were fusing (my neck is mostly immobile except the very top) I tend to agree.

Best part, my last appointment with her (years ago) was her telling me she was very excited to be closing her practice because she got a job instructing new doctors at a teaching hospital.

    Sigh.

  • I started working on my generic grunt in my 30s and use it for all kinds of things: getting out of chairs, into chairs, picking something up off the floor, the first stair up or down, lifting anything with both hands, etc.

As time goes on I'm developing specialized grunts like a go slightly deeper on the first step down a flight of stairs than up.

    It's been quite a journey.

  • The media is the source of misinformation. I thought that was clear, sorry. The fact is Fox News has equal or less weight to it for a lot of maga people than far more extreme news sources. I would lump in social sites since it is trivial to drive home an agenda or talking point with the cooperation of influencers hungry for views.
