  • I think a better way to look at this is Republicans are obviously doing everything they can to make elections seem untrustworthy or irrelevant.

Among supporters, this means they won't oppose antidemocratic measures like making sure the majority of your county don't have a convenient polling place (I, of course, don't know this is the case, it's an example).

Among detractors, it encourages a sense of hopelessness in areas that are red or starting to turning red to purple.

This makes it easier to overturn or manipulate elections without popular opposition.

Every single time you supress a legitimate vote you weaken the idea that every vote counts.

  • I knew a guy in university who absolutely reeked. He was a really nice person and I befriended him in a casual way (like sit together in a lecture, chat in the hall). It was clearly a medical thing but people ostracized him and talked behind his back about how he must never shower. I felt really bad for him.

  • Why? Because the people who make money don't like dealing with the founders.

Purely made up example: board of directors decides they can make the mosy money by pivoting and rebranding as "the customer service company". They will throw away all the models built with copyright material, build simpler models based on customer service scripts and interactions from customer businesses, and save a ton on compute while making bank on licensing and professional services. No more free chat, etc.

A founder doesn't like this new direction that is antithetical to their vision for the business so they go around telling shareholders to get rid of the current board and for employees to quit or otherwise not help with this.

Board sees this messing with their genius money printing idea so they fire them.

  • Be prepared to be bored out of your damn mind, periodically delighted, and always realizing that yes they somehow found scissors while you looked away long enough to see what time it is. Note: 6 hours haven't passed, it just feels like it.

You can go to the park and come home 6 times. Each time will be an adventure.

They love water. You need to supervise but pouring liquid between vessels is fun. Same with sand. You'll probably need to change their clothes 3-4 times anyway so it doesn't matter if what they are doing messes up their outfit. DO NOT leave a kid like this unattended if they are not confined in a very, very safe place. Ask parents what they do when they need to use the washroom and do that.

Make sure you have a good line up of parent approved snacks and drinks.

You might be able to buy some time with a video but better is to get some raffi songs going and show them how to clap, have a dance party (well away from stuff they can hit their head on etc - you can do this seated).

Figure out the potty training situation but kids this old get upset when away from parents and can regress so could mean they have accidents. If this happens don't get angry. Just change them and back to playing.

    Good luck.

If you have trusted friend or relative they can watch them while you use the washroom or google how to get you keys out of the toilet (do not give them your keys or phone - memorize that).

  • Capitalism 101:

    • as productivity of individuals increases, increase the workload and hit fewer people
    • if people are better at "life" and have more free time and money, charge more for discretionary experiences and goods

    And so on.

I do think it will improve life for some but for others it will suck. Example: it much, much easier and cheaper to give each gig worker a micro-managing AI voice I their ear than it is to replace workers with robots (work in Amazon warehouse if you don't believe me). And job automation in white collar sectors will mean more people are taking gig economy jobs.

Maybe it will be cool. Show up at a construct site, sign in, and get told what to do to help frame a house with no real skills ("take a stack of studs to the location on your HUD"). You are now making money without needing other people to supervise that much (skilled framers still do most if it but you keep them more productive). And you could do that for two hours and hand off to the next person.
