  • I'm not sure that I agree that low-contrast text in the top panel is friendly to old people (or anyone, for that matter). Text that contrasts with the background is way easier to read and strains your eyes less.

I would hate to use this desktop, it's a pain in the ass to even read the clock in the top corner. I don't even have vision problems.

  • Generally, we have levels of technical expertise based on how many years of schooling you did.

    • Technician: 2 years of college (diploma)
    • Technologist: 3 years of college (advanced diploma)
    • Engineer: 4 years of university (bachelor's degree) plus 5 years of training as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and a successful attempt at the Professional Engineer (PEng) exam

Of these, only "engineer" is a protected title in Ontario. But you can get additional certification through OACETT to become a Certified Technician (CTech) or Certified Technologist (CT).

So, depending on the person's education and training, they could be called a Network Technician, Network Technologist, or Network Engineer.

  • The objective is to make sure you have enough supplies to survive for as long as you can while making it across America to a place safe from zombies.

I believe the goal is ultimately to get to Canada (I haven't played in a while) but I might be mixing it up with Death Road to Canada, which is similar in premise but probably not something you could play one-handed.

  • Yeah, it's kind of annoying that women basically have their clothes sizes randomized and you have to look at their size chart online anyway.

At least when I go buy pants (as a man), I can reasonably assume that almost any pair I get off the rack is labelled by hip circumference and instep and roughly the size I'm expecting. Though there's a decent amount of vanity sizing in a lot of men's clothes these days too.

  • Are "plenty of people" enough to make a game commercially viable? And not in an indie way.

I zone out, completely cut off from others, while playing games all the time. What I don't want to do is fork over more cash for things that will collect dust (like a headset for a single game).

Given how different it is to other, normal 3D games, I think it's a bit much to stake your franchise on something most people will never have. It's obvious Valve knew that, they're not idiots and have put out good hardware that didn't see mass adoption in the past (Steam Controller, Steam Link, etc.); it's clear they wanted to try out something new even if it wasn't a huge blockbuster. They have lots of revenue from other sources to fall back on.

They probably hoped that some people would take a chance and get the hardware to play the game, and some people did. But to expect that most would do that? Lol. They're not that dumb.

"The idea" was to do something no one had done before with a beloved franchise. Not to sell headsets.

  • I would have to speculate, but I think it's due to averages.

The average woman is much smaller than the average man. There are a handful of sizes that will fit most women, and a handful for men. Think of a standard distribution: there will be outliers, but most are in a certain range.

Over many decades, even centuries, sizing is more rigidly codified as larger scale production of textiles/shoes becomes common, but of course this sizing doesn't apply to everyone for various reasons, so things such as vanity sizing and regional/manufacturing differences created an even bigger mess.

Not to mention that people are fatter now because of the caloric density of modern food, so it's relatively common now that even really short people can be very wide. Plus sizing is also a huge clusterfuck.

Another factor is fit and cut, but this comment is already too long to get into that.

  • The idea of sinking $500 into a headset and then another $80 for one game is pretty crazy. Not like Valve doesn't have the ownership numbers from the hardware survey. It was never going to sell like HL2.

  • Five years and I still don't have a VR headset lol. These things are enthusiast tech and I am not that enthusiastic about having one.

Half-Life Alyx wasn't called Half-Life 3 because it came out on a platform most people don't have/can't afford. It's essentially a really cool spin-off that I will never play.

Cool that you liked it though, love that for you.

  • I don't think I can really offer you any useful advice since I have never dealt with this. But I noticed you're in therapy, that's great. I couldn't help but see that you wrote this:

those who love get screwed. so i must not get close to anyone i love

i have no support network therefore i will be badly hurt when this ends, and almost everything ends

I think these 2 statements are contradictory, or at least will prevent you from progressing emotionally while you hold both to be true. I would really recommend that you talk about these 2 things with your therapist.

Building a support network, even online, even with just 1 other person, even with people you don't feel comfortable telling "everything" to, could really benefit you. But your current relationship style is holding you back from that, which seems like a Catch-22 that a professional might be able to help with.

Please take care, it must be horrible to experience what you've described. I imagine that it's taking a large toll on you physically and emotionally, so try to go easy on yourself.

  • Mostly, you'll only scare them if you're quiet and sneak up on them. If you walk normally and don't try to be quiet, they'll run away before you can get close.

Skunks are considered a pest and they're more than aware we don't like them, so they generally employ the timeless strategy of scurrying in the opposite direction unless directly threatened.

  • Yeah, I'm a trans man and I'm also not a drag queen. Lol. I don't really feel like a campaign called Drag the Vote speaks for me, it feels like it speaks over me. At least the drag queens are having fun, I guess. :/

  • Only Jesus and the canonized saints get magic powers, the rest of them just have like, fake magic powers that Catholics have to pretend are real.

God could cure him, because He's super awesome and shit, but since He works in mysterious ways and all, you can't rightfully question why He didn't because He knows everything and you don't. That's just selfish.

Hopefully you can tell I'm being sarcastic.

  • I'd really love to see more representation from various indigenous groups and nations in the US and Canada, like stories and myths from the Anishinaabe people being made into a TV show or animated movie or something (just an example).

I think an anthology series (either one overarching story per season or one shorter story per episode) would be really interesting and probably also allow a lot more indigenous people to break into acting/production. Using music made by indigenous people would also be cool.
