  • Just... Don't get big enough, right? Limit user sign-ups. That seems to be the obvious solution to this, no? More instances will pop up. Am I crazy?

  • Every two weeks --- this next weekend being one such event ---, I have sushi with my grandma and my brother. I love sushi, my grandma, and my brother. Feeling stellar.

  • Great write-up by Niccolò.

I actually agree with the commenter on that post, the lack of quoting and using images is pretty bad, especially for screen-readers (which I use), and not directly linking sources (though they are made clear regardless) is a bit of a pain.

  • I mean, obviously this is true and a huge issue, but that's part of what the Fediverse aims to address. Mainstream social media is fucked and done for.

  • I'd probably go with metaphors and callbacks.

"Do you remember that one time we went to the pier?" and make up a story or something that can be re-interpreted. IDK if that's very good.

  • The title of this post made me think that you were a immortal confused by the evolution of language.

  • My toppings of choice are olives, mushrooms, and pineapple.

  • OH MAN!!!

My favourite thing to cook is stir-fry veggie-mix with mashed potatoes.

I buy a myriad of vegetables in "bulk" (not that much, y'know, but the more you buy the more you have and the less you have to go back to the store) and cut them all up thinly, mix them up, and store them in the freezer. Carrots, cabbage of many varieties, chickpeas, regular peas, onion, french onion, leek, turnip, spinach... It's hard to go wrong with your choices.

Yes, it does require some prep, as you can see, but it's just a matter of picking your prep day: the day you buy and prepare the veggies.

When you buy the veggies, you should also buy potatoes. Peel and cut them up in equal chunks; store separately to the veggies.

    That's the prep done.

Then, whenever you want to eat, you just take some of the veggie-mix, olive oil, salt, and your favourite herbs (garlic, parsley...) and stir-fry the whole thing! Take the potatoes, boil them in salted water, drain the water, mash them thoroughly (I like to mix some spices here too, like cayenne pepper and garlic).

So delish every time! You can easily get the protein from the veggies, but you could also add tinned fish of your choice, I like tuna.

  • Right now, it's Thunder.

  • Well, sometimes you know something is bad for you, but you still engage with it. For example, you know drinking high sugar content soft drinks isn't the best, but you still do it. Fast food, drugs, et cetera.

"What's a post on Lemmy that, even though you know you could hide --- even though you know you should hide ---, you don't? You just can't bring yourself to do it!"

Now, mind you, I'm not sure what situation there could be, what kind of fantastical, mythical post this might be that would warrant such a reaction... I can imagine porn could be it, as you mentioned. Maybe a drama post with lots of toxic interactions. I don't know.

  • Why the hell are you getting so many downvotes on this?!?!

    I've never hidden a post.

  • Right, and who do you think would have time to read about the fucking vote? Who do you think would have the means to learn about the complex aspects that relate to it? Who do you think would have the knowledge to even understand it to begin with? Time, means, effort. Who do you think would have the time, the means, and the foresight to learn to answer the damn questions?

You are blind. The world we live in, the societies we live in, they are not fair. If you put a test, the rich, powerful, and those with access to superior education WILL be over-represented because they have power and education, they WILL vote everyone else out, they WILL control everything. You are NOT testing merit, you are testing ease of access to information, you are testing power, you are testing capital.

  • That's not a meritocracy. That just benefits those that already have power and access to good education.
