The answer is for people who voted for Biden in the 2020 primaries to apologize for putting us in this position. Otherwise they're just gonna do it again in 2028.

Going around Congress to ship weapons to Israel flies in the face of the helpless president narrative you're trying to paint here.

Remember when Hilary told wall Street to "cut it out"? Is that the kind of pressure you're talking about?

And the people who voted for Biden in the 2020 primary will have plenty of opportunities to claim there was nothing wrong with knowingly voting for a candidate they knew would be unpopular with people they were depending on in the general election.

Clearly enough vote that Biden's chances in 2024 are looking less likely by the day.

If there's a plan for a better outcome I can white knuckle my way through a lot of situations in life. Sure, shit happens and sometimes we just gotta deal with it but if I feel like this isn't something we're going to be able to avoid in the future I want to opt out entirely. Think of a camping trip where the tent is leaking. If we're not planning on replacing the tent I don't want to go camping again.

So with Biden sure I can white knuckle through it if I think 2028 primaries are going to produce someone better but they won't. You can blame "young voters" if you want. Personally I point to the fact that nobody is apologizing for voting for Biden in the 2020 primaries. If they're not apologizing that means they don't see how their decisions negatively impacted me or don't see a problem with negatively impacting me so they're going to repeat the behavior.

I'm not interested in white knuckling through that. People are free to keep camping with a leaky tent I won't stop them but I won't be participating any more than I can control.

Please don't respond with some kind of counter comparative example or taking my made up comparison to some kind of scientific degree. It's just a conceptual tool for the purposes of the conversation. Telling me it doesn't apply isn't going to change the way I view the situation or my decisions.

If I get the sense that 2028 would somehow be better I'd reconsider.

Biden came out and verbally supported the police actions and people still wanna say this is exclusively a Republican action.

This is rich people action. This is boomer action. This is pro-corporate, authoritarian, protofacist action. And our "democracy" provides no opportunities to do anything about it.

Biden's primary stated reason for defending Israel is a promise to his dying father.

Not his conscience, not the people alive and around him today, not the people who voted for him, not the people who he's depending on to get re-elected.

Okay let me be absolutely clear here, I know full well that Lemmy and even Reddit leans farther left. I'm not gonna argue with you that I gave you that impression. I'm just going to say here and now, I don't think the majority of Lemmy are in support of sending weapons to Israel. Hell I can hardly find anyone who admits to voting for Joe Biden in the 2020 primaries on here.

There are some and I set about finding those examples and even shared a few with you. If they exist here of all places then I speculate (I'm not trying to make some scientific claim here) there are a good number of them.

This whole exchange is based on the assumption I'm a troll who speaks out both sides of my mouth which obviously I can't disprove so there's no point in continuing.

I don't know what I'm expecting I guess. I'm so angry with Biden but at the end of the day I already knew he's not really trying to support me. Sure he'll throw my demographic a bone here and there to get some easy votes but that's about it. My anger is purely that a politician I never wanted is doing something awful that I don't support. That's a regular experience.

I'm trying to imagine what it's like to be very much against shipping weapons to Israel and have voted for the guy in the primaries who went around congress to ship weapons to Israel. I'd be asking myself questions like "Did I vote for someone who supports genocide when there were better options?" and "Is our democracy even functional?" Of course I can't know with absolute certainty what someone is or isn't asking themselves in their heads. But I would suspect those kinds of questions would elicit strong words or actions.

And also granted, there have been a lot of both. But I gotta be honest, the people I'm seeing on television do not look like the demographics who voted for Biden in the 2020 primaries. Do they to you?
