Who told you rent control backfired? Cause that's a lie. It was just never adopted as widely as it should have been, and rich owners always have the ear of lawmakers ... the same can't be said of poor/working poor people.

  • @Boxtifer @morphballganon

Yup. But I've worked pumping gas so do tip ... especially when it's -40C and/or during a snow storm.

I see it as an appreciation of the work they do for shit wages.

  • @pelicansplight @MicroWave

Sounds like my dad. 5 wives, and never had sex with the last one cause he was too scared to tell her he had herpes and Hep C that he gave to wife 4 ... all cause he couldn't keep it in his pants.

Try being Canadian and living next door to this crap, with the most porous borders in the world between us.

    sigh

If I were a doctor in Texas I would be leaving Texas asap.

    Same for Florida.

Since every evolutionary era, when devastation then a rise of life occured, the new life forms were more advanced than the previous.

It's likely that whatever life develops after we're gone will find more ecologically-sound ways to progress than we did. And that's a good thing, cause we were for shit at it.

  • @MercuryUprising

The oceans have healed before and are far more capable of that than you seem to think.

Will it take millions of years? Ofc it will. But it will happen, because as long as there is one single-celled organism that survives our self-immolation it will grow and produce and evolve.

  • @MercuryUprising

No previous life form based its expansion on oil like we did. And no previous life, in its unfathomable diversity, was even close to prior ones in shape, form or ability.

Why would you think that a future intelligent form would turn out like us and base its existence on fossil fuels?

  • @MercuryUprising @Chainweasel

"No it will not. There is absolutely zero evidence of that ..."

Wrong. There is lots of evidence of that through the geological record.

  • @PlantJam

Yeah, I have a problem with Spacey now as well.

And that movie was pretty badly done.

  • @danhab99 @Spacebar

Problem is that there are innocent people convicted of crimes, and the death penalty assures that at least one innocent person will be killed for a crime they didn't commit.

That's a high price to pay for the supposed satisfaction of removing a psychopath from the living.

  • @TIEPilot @evatronic

Stop whining over helping your fellow human beings ... because the hell you were able to set yourself up financially without any help from anyone at anytime in your life.

  • @SendMePhotos @echo64

Mainly because the UK's parliament is Westminster-based, the House of Lords are appointed (not elected) for life, and it's there to act as a check against the House of Commons (who are elected) so no majority gov't could just pass any laws, etc that they want.

Canada's gov't is the same (except we call it the Senate vs House of Lords instead).
