  • SSDs boot fast enough that I just hard shut down windows at night whenever I have to boot into it -- usually for games, since all my non-vr games run on Linux but I have a Quest 2, and Linux support for those is Incredibly sketchy.

It can't wake from sleep/hibernation if it's fully powered off and there's no windows code running to wake it.

  • Yeah, like 98% of the times something broke while updating, it was something to do with ZFS, because the ZFS drivers aren't in the kernel for licensing reasons, and there's always a specific latest kernel version they're compatible with that's 1-2 versions behind current. Also the initramfs would sometimes get rebuilt without ZFS if there was a version mismatch, which prevents the system from booting properly, but it's Fine because Half the Point of ZFS is snapshots.

Someone using arch in a more sane way than I was would probably have no issues (unless they use proprietary Nvidia drivers, which will VERY occasionally break, but that's nbd).

  • Same, the third one isn't even Loli, that's Reagan from Inside Job, she's like 28. The others might be, but definitely not Obviously so

  • Yeah ik, I assumed he meant Just the dick though, like how sometimes hentai will give people a canine dick. The image including a Straight Up Horse feels weirder to me.

  • I'd agree, but this is true of most distros tbh. Like obviously loads of stuff is gonna break on arch just due to the bleeding edge release cycle, but I had fewer issues running arch than Ubuntu, mainly due to PPAs and snap bullshit

  • Just looked up a screenshot out of morbid curiosity, none of it looks loli to me, but there is what seems to be a woman getting mounted by a Literal Horse, so that's something 💀

  • Same, there's like 3 or 4 💀

  • This is true, but the casualties are hitting the population of Gaza indiscriminately, and the median age there is only 18. So you're still killing half children. Even if the ranks of Hamas are heavily stacked with 16-17 year old kids (in which case indiscriminate killing of them would still be better to avoid, it's not like child soldiers are really capable of consenting to the risks of armed conflict), there's no way the majority of the deaths are actual Hamas combatants.

  • It's worse than that, I haven't seen any data on what percentage of the still-standing buildings remain inhabitable/structurally sound. A lot of those 30% are probably not going to be safe to occupy long-term without significant repairs, and I doubt Isreal is going to fund those.

  • You can literally see Gaza City leveled on satellite maps, very few buildings are left standing. Even if Isreal hadn't killed a Single civilian, tens to hundreds of thousands would eventually die of exposure because they have nowhere else to go, their homes have been destroyed (Egypt isn't willing to take Gazan refugees and it seems like neither is anyone else in the area).

The infrastructural damage alone is enough to indirectly kill 10s of thousands minimum in the long run. And of course Isreal has been striking civilians, so the total scale of the civilian life lost will be much larger than that.

  • I've had free prime for years, I signed up for a free trial on an empty visa gift card. Every time I log in, it complains that they couldn't collect payment, but it keeps giving me prime benefits, I'm coming up on 2 years like this.

  • Honestly, I'm just using a cheap Android TV box with stremio and smart tube. Those two apps pretty much cover everything I'd wanna watch. Those $20 Walmart ones are super easy to root/bootloader unlock too, so you can put lineageOS on it if you want

  • Honestly, worst case scenario, if YouTube manages to completely eliminate adblockers, maybe by making some kind of cryptographic system where the browser has to provide a token embedded inside the ad video stream in order to access the video, I would still use an extension to mute sound and draw a black bar over the ads while technically playing them in the background, it's not the wait time that bothers me, it's how repetitive and obnoxious the ads are, I just don't want to perceive them.

  • Mobile Linux is a thing, though I think it would take governments mandating unlocked/user-unlockable bootloaders to gain literally Any market share. It would also probably take a compatibility layer for running Android apps similar to Wine in desktop Linux, but Android already runs a Linux kernel, so projects like Waydroid are most of the way there already by just running Android inside a container.

  • No it's not, just mandate unlocked or user-unlockable bootloaders, the open source Android dev community will do the rest. There would be degoogled custom ROMs and full linux (eg Ubuntu touch, postmarketOS, etc.) ports for every reasonably popular device within months.

  • Presumption of innocence is a legal rule, not a good epistemic rule. If it turns out that he's found innocent, then cool, good for him. However, I'm going to keep assuming that Republican politicians charged with/accused of sexual misconduct are guilty until proven otherwise because the rate of sexual misconduct among Republican politicians seems to be Insanely High, plus their ideology and policies help justify it.

Although I don't think arrests should be public record, cops can arrest people for anything regardless of evidence and particularly for something as serious as CSAM possession it should at least have to go to trial to be made public

  • Frame it however you want, you're not even wrong. It still remains true that, if elected, Trump is going to try to end democracy and replace it with a fascist dictatorship. Biden is Not going to do that.

That's literally it, that's the only relevant factor to consider when deciding if you're going to vote for Biden. I hate him as much as everyone else, but I don't hate Biden more than I hate the idea of getting put in a camp for being trans at some point down the line, and if you do you're shortsighted and you value your ability to feel Morally Pure over actually doing anything.

  • I don't think Microsoft charges OEMs remotely close to full price for OEM licenses, so it's more like a $10 tax, but I agree with everything else here
