I use it for sim racing sometimes and it's amazing to feel like I'm in an F1 car or something. Until I get nauseous after 15 minutes or something. It's also a bit of a hassle to set up. That being said, maybe it would be cooler if I got into beat saber or something.

Was it over hyped? Maybe. But it's still a cool technology and I'd be sad to see it fall into nothingness. I don't see a future where everyone is wearing VR glasses, but it's still a very neat thing to enjoy every now and then.

Unfortunately yes. Unfortunately Lemmy is too small for many of the things I did on Reddit. I mainly enjoyed lurking around in discussions on Reddit, only posting comments when I really cared (just like I do now here on Lemmy). Whenever I played a game, watched a show, etc I'd go to Reddit to read about other people's opinions and discussions. But Lemmy is too small to have any meaningful discussion about a specific game or some other content.

Often I see here the "if you miss it why not create it" sentiment, but that's just not how I used Reddit. I often don't want to have a meaningful discussion with s small group of people but rather read the opinions and memes of a large group of people.

So far, I've been able to limit it to browser usage though. The web experience of Reddit is abysmal, but at least I can block the ads etc. And I'm still here for all the content that is on Lemmy.

I agree, but I've gotten less annoyed by it over the years. When I was young it really didn't make sense to me. Money can do literally the same and is way more versatile.

However, now that I'm trying to survive this adulting thing it does start to make more sense, even if I still don't like it. If someone gives me money, it ends up on the big pile of money that's constantly flowing around. Give me 20 euros and it just adds 20 to the number in my bank account, which will eventually end up being used on groceries, bills, mortgage, etc. if you give someone money as a present you don't want this. You don't know what to give the other person ans you want them to choose something nice for themselves. But buying them part of their groceries or a part of their bills isn't exactly a fun gift. You want to "force" them to buy something nice, something that they want to spend money on instead of need to spend money on. A gift card does this.

Then again, giving me physical money would also do this. Or asking me to say when I bought something nice with it. When people gift me money I tend to tell them where it went and that works way better than gift cards imo.

I obviously don't agree with them, but my assumption is that it has to do with maturity/innocence. An unborn child hasn't done anything wrong. They're full of opportunity and have a whole life ahead of them. A criminal sentenced for death has I some way done something very wrong. They've had their chance and failed.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic, if you feel like playing rollercoaster tycoon 1/2 on your phone. They slightly altered the UI to make it more touch friendly.

Oh lol I had a similar idea yesterday, but the conditions where not ideal. It was very windy, cloudy, and the light was already going. So I had very few usable shots unfortunately. Nice picture!

Yeah you're running by default but it can easily take an in-game hour to get anywhere. When you're done with the plants or animals you have to race to get to the shops in order to be there before closing. Especially the blacksmith

In the moment It was mostly concerned with the task at hand, which was usually drawing, listening to music and adoring the funky visual effects (no halicunations tho). But the most specific thing that came out of it was changed relationship with some of my friends.

One of them was, for instance, quite annoying. I seem to be quite sensitive to the stuff, meaning that I was the first one "in" and the last one "out". He was the kind of guy to tease people a s a joke. It annoyed me before, but during the trips I finally realized how immature and annoying that stuff became. He was joking about me while I was in a vulnerable state and expected maturity from the people around me. The changed perspective meant that I finally got to look from the outside in and determine that I maybe should disengage from the relationship a bit.

It's not that I wouldn't recommend others to do it. I just won't do it again because I now realize how much this kind of stuff kan really affect you. As long as you're in the right headspace it can be a very cool experience. I still remember, after hours of chill music, how we all suddenly fell silent after an intense build-up followed by a heavy DnB drop. It felt physical, like I was suddenly pushed into the couch by the bass and couldn't get out. Not sure if I'll ever experience music in that way again.

Magic mushrooms, or any other psychedelic stuff. I did it three times, and in retrospect I'm not sure if I realized what I was messing with. Unlike being drunk, it actually feels like these instances actually changed me as a person. Not for the worse, but it's still kinda spooky.

On the surface it was just some fun, my brain was being silly and everything felt much more vibrant. But beyond that it actually changed my views on people and concepts. It altered my relationships and ultimately who I am as a person. Looking back, thos stuff seems to put your brain into an entirely different mode of creating and removing connections. It's not just messing with the "RAM" like alcohol, this stuff is writing to disk and making persistent changes.

It's usually off unless I expect to be back relatively soon. Startup times aren't an issue nowadays

The frog is being used by a lot of people tho. I have many friends and colleagues who use it for whatever and they're definitely not Nazi's. Not everything being used by idiots needs to be instantly banned, they don't deserve that power

Where? It looks pretty normal to me. The cars all seem to have normal shapes and I don't see any major inconsistencies in shapes or perspective. The left lane is just more busy than the right one. There's definitely some Photoshop and lightroom magic going on (for instance the windows in one of the towers on the foreground), but I don't see any signs that scream AI to me. Just looks like a normal but heavily edited picture.

If I get the context right then he's a traitor, but I cannot deny that the outfit is pretty cool

"De Grote Zaal" by Jacoba van Velde. For school we had to read many books. In the earlier years this could be anything as long as it was Dutch, so translated versions of English books were fine. I could read stuff like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc. However, at some point the requirements shifted, and we were only allowed to read Dutch (non-translated) works of literature. This shit single-handedly killed all my fun in reading. Dry books about old people or about the war.

"De Grote Zaal" is the one that I remember the most. It's a short book, but it goes pretty much nowhere and doesn't at all speak to the imagination of a teen guy. To me it represents the death of reading as a hobby. I've tried to pick up reading again, but it has since been replaced by other things and I just don't make the time for it anymore.

Uhhhh. Probably the fridge. Maybe the microwave/oven combi, but the microwave no longer works so it's a bit less useful. If you purely look at the basics of survival then those would probably do it. Maybe the heaters, because surviving in a cold room is also pretty shit.

You could also argue that the smartphone I'm typing this on or the laptop are the most useful. It really comes down to semantics of "useful".

Wait overmorrow is correct English? We have "morgen" and "overmorgen" in Dutch which is tomorrow and overmorrow respectively, so I always missed an overmorrow in English. Is it actually commonly understood or will people look at me like I'm a weird foreigner when I use it?

Blijkbaar Sinaasappels pellen. Misschien zijn het gewoon de sinaasappels die ik heb, maar het voelt niet prettig. Nagellak niet kapot willen maken (of in m'n eten willen hebben) helpt hierbij zeker niet.
