  • Seems like your edge server is acting as a proxy for a media server on some other host on your LAN.

You want to make sure that the media server software is setup securely, patched, and properly isolated from anything else in LAN should that become compromised. Proxy closes off a lot of attack vectors but not application vulnerabilities. The Lastpass hack happened because of some vulnerability in an employees home plex server.

  • Once it's rotted, you need to replace. This will also give you the opportunity to look at the wood behind the siding as there's a good chance that the rot goes deeper.

You never want to have untreated wood touching concrete. Concrete will always wick water and rot the wood. When you replace the siding, leave a 3/8in gap between the wood and concrete. Seal the gap with caulk to keep water out.

  • For commodity online services, you are lucky that people even give you their email address. The number of people who provide anything more is extremely low. OP is freaking out that they are emailing. If they called him on the phone, he would lose his shit.

The terms of service explicitly state that any communications and legal notices about the services will be delivered via the email address that must be verified at sign up. It is not unreasonable to ask customers to provide a valid way to send them service related messages.

Google isn't going to call you or send you old-school paper mail when they discontinue a service. Even if they did, 99% of people would think that it was a scam.

All that being said, we will always scream test things like EOL of a service just to catch anyone who missed the communications.

  • Not sarcastic. I work for a provider, and we warn people of service changes a bunch of times over a period of months.

Despite this, you will still get a bunch of people complaining that they were never told, we surprised them with it at the last minute, etc.

A change that deletes customer data brings in legal as well. If one of these people tries to sue for losing their data you want to be able to show that you provided plenty of notice and warning.

Companies will often "scream test" a data loss change. Meaning you turn it off, but don't really delete right away to see who screams that their data is gone. Anyone screaming gets some short time period to recover the data.

  • You're sane. Unlike the poor photographer who spent 19 hours fighting to stop these two cat snakes from slinking out of the sweaters while trying to snap a photo in the microsecond that they both looked in the same direction. Ferret photography is not for the weak.

  • Fiction is fiction.

In real life, stalking the victim for months, sniper shots, or anything that involves any sort of sofisticiation or team of people is asking to get caught.

KISS principle. A successful hit would be as simple as possible, happen fast with no prior interaction, and involve as few people as possible.

  • The only time that a corporation will take action is when it impacts profits.

If the NAZIs drive more profits than they lose, they will stay. It's as simple as that.

Any corporate social conscience is just a show. Post some rainbows and say that shutting down NAZI is too difficult, but don't do anything that might reduce the profits that the hate controversies create.

Non-profit platforms like Lemmy can do what is right vs what is profitable

  • Filing charges on these wingnuts is their wettest of wet dreams. They get to play the victim card and call press conferences to scream about how they are maytrs for the cause and fighting the libs. It would validate their existence as they cosplayed every Fascist fantasy.

Cops don't want to deal with this bullshit either. Take a report that will be filed and forgotten forever to placate them. You would really need to be a persistent asshole wasting a lot of their time before they are going to charge you.

  • Lying in court is perjury, which is a criminal offense.

That being said, making a mistake on something like a date is a valid defense. Trump immediately recanting gives him a good way to claim mistake.

There's more value to prosecution to make him seem deceptive and stupid than wasting more time with something like a super weak case for perjury. You also don't want to give them more ways to draw out and delay the process.
